Now Listening: Mother We Share - CHVRCHES

Socialism defender, 24, same name elsewhere - officially left twitter. I'm probably listening to a long Youtube/Nebula vid right now or the track above

Liberals are anti leftist first, anti conservative second. The priorities are in that order and if they have to tank every election to stop leftist momentum they will.
liberals who think the left are uniquely hostile online should do a test post, say you think it was bad that obama killed so many people with drone strikes, something like that. if you think the left are mean, you aren't ready for the wrath of the scratched liberal

when Michael Phelps was dominating US swimming there was endless coverage of all his genetic advantages. His wingspan, the way his body processed lactic acid, on and on and on. Nobody, not one person, floated the idea of kicking him out of the sport for genetic advantages
“I just have concerns about fairness in sport” - no, you don’t. There’s nothing fair about elite sports. You’re just looking for post hoc justification because we give you the ick

Omg you all let the police beat the shit out of young Americans for protesting genocide for a whole year straight and now you're publishing and reposting articles on how the youth is not interested in politics because they didn't want to participate in your whitewashed PG shitlib protest???
Fantastic data in here. Was just talking to a neighbor about the age curve at No Kings. Not an easy thing to fix.
The Times piece by @brendannyhan.bsky.social about No Kings made me curious about the political activism of young people over time. So I pulled some CES data and made some charts. www.pbump.net/o/how-severe...

the math teacher here did a few things that make her defense harder. the big ones are (1) calling out religious language as words and not numbers (2) giving her a 0/20. those things make it a lot easier to claim that she was being singled out.
Best response I've seen to the University of Oklahoma firing one of their LGBTQ+ teachers over giving a student a bad grade

a real tell in all of this is that the trans instructor wasn't alone in trashing this essay! a whole other person also said they agreed completely that it sucked. but as far as i can tell only the trans person is getting punished. www.oklahoman.com/story/news/e...

I think straight and cis people really have no idea what things are like out there for the rest of us. I’ve received minimum one paper Like That per year since I started teaching, if not one or more per semester, all of which contained varying degrees of blunt hate speech directed *at me* lmao

this dunkass isn't the only one tweeting that the grad student should've taken steps to protect herself. perhaps she should've done something like had a second instructor also look at the essay and confirm the grade and feedback. that sort of smart move surely would've saved her. definitely.

maybe we should postpone the discussion about the merits of tolerating perspectives like "trans people are demons who must be exterminated" until we live in a hypothetical future where that extermination is not presently ongoing

lawyers are determined to continue saying that dog is not allowed to play basketball over and over again, they will get dunked on till the end of time and afterwards write in their journal how they technically won the game

since all of you are big on citing the bible suddenly, heres a citation for you "The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’" Matt. 25:40

Discussing if that UO grading story has any merit automatically makes the transphobes win, because you’re taking a hate crime seriously.

every. time.

yes even that time, and this time

i really hate all the cis people doing "i might be wrong, but you're mean which is worse"
you do not need to defend that woman’s poorly written transphobic slop. you do not owe anything to the 6th grade prose of a bigot. you can simply say, “wow, this is fucking garbage on all fronts.” you do not need to be the kind of cis person who legitimizes transphobia. you can and should be better.

i think if the TA did not call the language offensive and also gave the student an 13/25, that the exact same controversy would take place and you would find some other reasons to explain your need to victim blame

The target was on this TA before she even graded the assignment because she was trans and grading an assignment about gender.

Maybe for the once the left can have actually solidarity with someone the right is destroying, instead of nitpicking how they could have avoided being attacked.
the actual merits of the grade are mostly beside the point, but i do think it’s worth thinking about how to insulate yourself a bit from bad faith actors if you’re a professor or TA. this M.O. (on a smaller scale) is common on the right.

New Yorkers kept telling me the same thing: they’re thinking of leaving because they can’t afford to raise their kids here. Universal childcare isn’t just a promise — it’s how we make this a city for everyone.
