Joyce Carol Oates absolutely reading Elon Musk for filth is pretty incredible, but something I'd point out is his feigned interest in games, and how fake that was, paying people to boost his accounts and play for him, and the rare time we actually got to see him play, he was absolutely miserable.

Best suggestions in the comments so far are "stumblebragging" and "The Mandel Effect"
there should be a word in English for when somebody tells a story that they think valorizes them but they're the obvious villain

it's astonishing that someone who claims to be a developmental psychologist (Katie) would not understand the basic notion of age-appropriateness / developmental appropriateness in education.
So your stance is that it's appropriate to discuss sexuality with 5-9 year olds?

It's obvious to anyone with half a brain and I don't understand why people like Yglesias, Klein, and others don't understand this. Abortion was a non-issue to anyone but Catholics until the GOP made it a major plank of their party. You can do things as a party and a politician to move public opinion

This is the crux of the matter. If the rich can’t use their money to control the political parties-both of them, make no mistake-then they can’t control the economy and extract its wealth, wealth based on our labor and common resources, for their own benefit.

If Schumer & Jeffries have been hostile to his camapign, it's because Mamdani’s ability to raise millions on an explicitly anti-corporate message represents a direct threat to the entire fundraising machinery that sustains Democratic Party leadership. /1

A child going into an actual shop and buying a vinyl? It will make you feel old and decrepit, and it’ll utterly bamboozle young people … but shut up – it’s Christmas!

I remember my poetry professor in college telling us how the first message transmitted over the internet was simply “lo”
It was going to be a longer message - like “logged on” or some such - but there was a connection hiccup, and it ended up being simply “lo”
Like “Lo! Let there be light”

Another fundamentally cynical aspect of this narrative is the idea that pundits like Douthats wouldn't *also* accuse Democrats of radicalism if they passed a bunch of 'kitchen-table' policies. Are we really gonna pretend the NYT op-ed page would support a $20 minimum wage?
This right here, this exact sentence, is THE problem in American political journalism.
The IRA *was* cheap energy and good jobs! That was the whole bill! Democrats did precisely what political pundits are telling them to do and the pundits just ignore it.

This is a genuine problem with UK politics and how it's covered:
The bizarre belief that having achieved power and influence at some point is irrefutable, cast-iron proof that you *deserve* it and should keep it in some form, no matter how wildly incompetent you have shown yourself to be

Sorry @theipaper.com but WHY is this guy talking to us about what will make the UK poorer? He was happy to grenade our economy twice…
Brexit and then his batshit budget with Truss.
He should be in political oblivion for the mess he made and the price we all have to pay for his party’s failures.

I think Zack Polanski uses that one. And speaking as an anarchist I think his real value is less as a political party leader and more as someone whose status as Green leader gives him access to say these things where they'd otherwise never be said.
Use a low-theory but memorable and true statement: "the enemy travels in private jets, not small boats."
