New sketch from my friend Everett Aison.

He occasionally sends me drawings by mail and I love them so much.

(More about Everett here: pleasureboatstudio.com/featured-aut... )
Such a good film.

(PNW folks can catch it at the Pickford this Saturday. www.pickfordfilmcenter.org/movie/natche... )

Along with directing an episode of TWIN PEAKS, Diane Keaton also directed four movies (one doc, three features).

I’ve only seen two: HANGING UP and WILDFLOWER. They’re both flawed but interesting and make me wish she’s directed more films. I gotta track down the other two.

These days I can no longer be shocked; *of course* a flashy provocateur who was never any kind of real journalist to begin with is now entrusted to become an editor -- an editor! -- at CBS News
These days I can no longer be shocked; *of course* a flashy reporter who spectacularly compromised her journalistic integrity via a played-out Hollywood cliché (getting romantic with her subject) is now entrusted to become an editor -- an editor! -- at Vanity Fair

New IJ lawsuit filed today challenging ICE raids of construction sites, wherein ICE detains American citizens in AL, rejects their proof of citizenship, and holds them without PC.

Worth a read, and more evidence of the wide gulf b/w what SCOTUS says is happening and what is actually happening.

Someone have me on your podcast to talk about ONE BATTLE AFTER ANOTHER.
Holy shit. Gross.

The whole thing, too, reeks of ignorance, insecurity, & small-mindedness (not to mention misogyny). Like he walked through the museum & didn’t know names like these so he decided they must not be worth knowing, rather than thinking, “hey, maybe I can learn something.”

I just ran One Battle After Another on 70mm and in case it's not common knowledge I want to make sure audiences know that those reels are fucking HUGE and HEAVY (like 40-50 lbs) and we have to lift them over our heads and angle them onto a thin shaft without dropping them on ourselves/the projector
We’re playing Chain Reactions @pickfordfilmcenter.bsky.social on Oct 4. Director Alexandre Philippe will be in attendance for a Q&A. Can’t wait!
Playing this Sat/Sun @pickfordfilmcenter.bsky.social !

2025 Democratic politics is that scene in every 70s movie where somebody gets their car stolen and runs down the street shaking their fist in the air yelling, "Hey, that's my car!!!"
Well, he won't. Now what?

Oh by the way, don’t forget you can ask your library to order nearly any book you want to read but don’t want to buy. And as authors we love libraries buying our books & readers being able to access them through libraries.
Princess Nausicaä was one of my daughters’ fave action heroes (kinda superhero!) growing up. They *hated* Iron Man when I showed it to them lol

This post sums up what I've been yelling at TV screens (much to my family's delight) for weeks. We have credible first-person testimony, from the victim herself & Epstein's "handler", that Trump raped a 13-year-old in Epstein's NYC apartment in 1994. But it's just two women talking, so why listen?
The actual conspiracy theory is that multiple women independently lied, with apparently nothing to gain, and much to lose, about Trump’s entanglement with Epstein. katemanne.substack.com/p/the-actual...

I compiled listings for Seattle area rep and art house theatres every week for five years or so at Seattle Screen Scene. It was exhausting and time-consuming work. We published a bunch of great reviewers too. Would have been nice if anyone involved in the site ever got paid for anything they did.
In my debut for @theatlantic.com, I wrote about the disappearance of cultural listings from major New York media outlets, and what it portends for artists, audiences, institutions, and journalists. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...

good thing Sam Pollard made an excellent documentary detailing J. Edgar Hoover’s unhinged, lawless, racist crusade to destroy MLK
The biography “is very clearly the result of slow thinking and methodical research, which makes it precisely the sort of work that its subject could never produce.” 💀

Immensely engaging, pungent review that shows the direct links to the conservative project/tactics/pseudo-intellectualism of today.

If you are a medical professional being targeted for treating transgender minor patients, here is someone who can help.
ALERT: Attorney General Pam Bondi is apparently threatening some of those providing medical care to their minor transgender patients.

If you receive one of these subpoenas, please reach out, have your lawyer do so, or send me a copy. My email is in bio, as is my Signal.
