“Israeli” ceasefires only ever apply to the other party. They’ll continue to kill whomever they want, whenever they want until they are stopped. They see themselves as occupying an altogether different moral plane than their enemies, like any colonizer.

What gets me is people who always recommend Dune to anyone who is just getting into SFF.

Dune is great and all, but it’s heavy going, and is as likely to put a new reader off genre fiction as much as it is to pull them in.

Pick something accessible for someone’s first read.

A little bit of software engineering history, when Microsoft were launching the .Net framework they did a campus roadshow tour, and I bagged this t-shirt in a cube that you are supposed to immerse in water to have it fold out.

Some people will play games in the most unintuitive ways to mix things up. It’s common for Stardew Valley player to do runs where they are never allowed to leave the farm, one person I’ve seen on YouTube is doing a run where they aren’t allowing themselves to use any tools.

Was reminded by @annabelcwrites.bsky.social the other day of the time she tried to play Grand Theft Auto IV, but refused to steal any cars, or break the law in any way, because the main character was starting a new life and she didn’t want him to fall into a life of crime.

Was giggling to myself yesterday in John Lewis as we were trying to buy shoes for the baby. There were no staff around to do a fitting and I was “practicing” how I was going to ask for a “Shoe person” at the the till to help us.

I nearly asked for a “Shoe-man-being.”
