Hi mox, new to community with truly weird ask. Husband has big cancer surgery coming up. Comes with permanent attached tech. Also, recently got pacemaker. He's getting thru it with Borg jokes. Anyone know Jeri Ryan? I want a get well card so much. Other thoughts happily accepted. Thanks!

I support the Trans community. And I don't believe that will hurt my run. I believe everyone has rights and they should not be legislated away. I don't see the difference between a trans person accessing care vs a pregnant woman accessing reproductive care, vs a man seeking ED car. It's all private.

In Southwest Washington we love our trees, in particular our Bigleaf Maples. So, this Thanksgiving season I’m so thankful for everyone who spent time out in the woods to look for the biggest Bigleaf Maple leaf!

Many people use criticism to slow the flow of positive energy. When they are beginning to feel good, they think: "Why did I do that? Shouldn't I have ...? If only I weren't so ... I wish I were like ..." In relationships, they may use similar critical behavior to limit the positive energy that is being exchanged. In our therapy practice we saw a classic example of using criticism to stop good feeling. Wife, after a problem was resolved, moved toward Husband to embrace him. They had hugged for about three seconds when he sniffed and said, "Your hair smells funny." Pop! went the balloon. Soon they were embroiled in another hassle. When it was brought to his attention what he had done, he roundly denied that his Upper Limits button had been pushed. "Nope," Page 130 of 291 47% he said, "I just thought it was my duty to let her know that her hair smelled funny." But his wife thought: "That's what you always do. I get close to you and you pick that time to tell me something that's wrong with me!" We had them try again. They embraced, and we asked them not to say anything but just to feel whatever they felt inside themselves. Ten seconds into the embrace he burst into tears. He cried for a little while, then he said that if he let himself be close to people he was afraid he would be hurt. More than a few seconds of closeness triggered sadness in him, so he found a way to push his wife away. It was easier for him to deal with her anger than to confront his own sadness.

Love weird & different takes on cranberry sauce? May I offer y'all my cran-pear-ginger chutney recipe? (haters... shh, enjoy your weird canned jello).
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar 1 cup apple cider 1 cup finely chopped onion 1/8 cup finely chopped peeled fresh ginger 1/8 cup finely chopped candied ginger 2 tsp grated lemon peel 2 tsp grated orange peel 1/2 cup raisins 1 cinnamon stick, broken in half 1/2 teaspoon dried crushed red pepper 1 12-ounce bag fresh cranberries 1/2 cup packed brown sugar 2-3 firm pears, peeled, cored, cut into 1/2-inch cubes (about 1-1.5 cup, to sweetness preference) Combine apple cider vinegar, cider, onion, ginger, lemon peel, orange peel, cinnamon stick pieces, crushed red pepper, and ground cloves in heavy large saucepan. Boil mixture until reduced by half, (about 10 minutes). Add everything else, stir until sugar dissolves and reduce heat to medium-low; cover and simmer until pears are tender and berries pop, and flavors blend, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat; discard cinnamon stick pieces. Using potato masher, mash mixture coarsely. Cool, chill, eat.

This is true. It is the best email I got this year.
I work as an elder and hospice caregiver, which I am oddly passionate about. I can love on them shamelessly and no one complains about my codependence. It's a win-win situation. Many of my caregiving colleagues complain about the repetitive questions and, sometimes reactions, of the elderly, especially when those patients happen to read the newspaper, especially with the current downward spiral of our country — as if these people haven't lived through enough horror... I love my dementia peeps, but sometimes wonder if there's a Guinness Book World Record for how many times an hour a dementia patient can repeat the same question — it's got to be in the hundreds. At least with small children, they ask different questions. Dementia patients will get stuck on one short question and ask it until you can interrupt their train(carousel) of thought and successfully redirect their attention. That carousel is pretty manic sometimes. A couple days ago, I picked up my mail from the post office and drove over to the nursing home to take (let's call her "Miss Daisy") Miss Daisy out for a drive. Before we took off on our road trip, to the end of The Road and back, in our landlocked little town (Juneau, Alaska), I set my copy of The Onion down in front of her. Over our two-hour excursion, tiny Miss Daisy read that front page at least a dozen times and each time she would snicker, giggle, and guffaw, then put it down on the dash board and, a minute later, discover it anew. I think it was the best afternoon of my life. We don't often hear them laugh and when they do, it's the sweetest thing you've ever heard. ... Thank you, thank you, thank you, for the really important work all of you do. You make the world a better place.

Big and small, I've had single-person businesses rip me to shreds over how their colors turned out on newsprint, and have worked with huge companies with THICK brand guidelines with every detail of their brand identity laid out and enforced with an iron fist. But I guess all of that stuff doesn't matter anymore? Who gives a fuck if this Al generated baby has six fingers, that mom-and-pop shop is still going to use it. That rug from Temu says Happy Thanksgivirg? Oh well haha it's just a silly funny thing now (nevermind that you never would have given a B-grade item from a craft show the same consideration). I don't actually care that the Al Coca-cola ad has a truck that changes size every scene, but I can't help but think about how, if it had been some poor underpaid artist, they would have been laughed out of the building. I don't really know how to put it in a succint way but it just feels all the more obvious how much more grace and flexibility has always been possible but never offered.
