I see pieces like this a lot, often w/ a spin of lamenting cultural degeneration, but reading is a LABOR issue, it’s declined because so many people are working overtime or two jobs & employers expect after hours work. France has Earth’s highest reading rate b/c long lunch breaks & labor protections

The "terrorist reclassification" was an extreme over interpretation by Ken Klippenstein that circulated purely as a headline and is active disinfo, there are a whole gaggle of left/lib journalists right now who have found their niche getting massive engagement by scaring the shit out of trans people

Should be noted that the “one in five trans people change their mind” figure touted by this article counts “went from trans to gender diverse” as if it were “went from trans to cis.” If you want the number of people who actually went from trans to cis, that number is actually around 2-4%

Even better, here’s the actual study they’re lying about for the article. The actual rate of “trans kids who canged their mind and are now cis” is around 2-4%, the economist just pumped it up by counting “gender diverse” people as if they were cis.

In any case, the @economist.com’s reading of the study isn’t just misleading, it is journalistic malpractice. If you want to write an article about a study, you should actually read the study first, otherwise you are just writing fanfiction.
