This makes me realize that most of my work is powered by pride (I made this) and anger (I can’t let them get away with that).
Maybe also sloth (I’ll finish this, then I can rest).
Hell, sometimes you don't even get that good at it, but it's yours; your work, your achievement, your creation.

You know what you miss using GenAI? Pride. That incredible dopamine surge when YOU did the thing, however sloppily at first, never mind when you stick it.

You're missing the point. 3/4

When I volunteered at the Austin Nature & Science Center 300 years ago, this was phrased to me as "their heads are full of optic nerves & murder. There's no room for anything else."
Me to same owl handler: "Owls are super wise, right? They read loads of highbrow Russian literature and stuff, don't they?"

Owl handler: "No, they actually have very tiny brains, due to the hugeness of their eyes. In reality they are one of the thickest animals you could ever meet."

Lol the crazy thing is, no, you’re not running out of good ideas. There are tons of great ideas everywhere. You’re just not willing to fund them because you’re all cowards.

The thing I am asked the most is “what can I do?” Followed by “is there any point?”

I am not asked “Is the climate crisis real/bad?”

There’s your lever. It’s right there, with a big flashing light, and you still have people saying “no, no, don’t pull the lever, that’s hopium!”

The malicious compliance aspect of this is that students can apparently now submit a complaint against every professor in the university and shut the whole place down indefinitely.
From the Oklahoma U student paper: the school is now saying it will automatically suspend faculty (with pay) in response to student complaints

The fun thing about being biracial is that because colonialism doesn't like being reminded that race and ethnicity aren't immutable categories, society makes sure you're never actually welcome anywhere.

I guess that's less "fun" and more "this sucks."

whenever I'm like "hey if there's no game jobs, then there's no game jobs, I'll just quit already", I'll get a message like this, and it makes me realize.

We're indies, we share knowledge and skills, and help each other out. That's what this industry is about, for me.
So I learned recently that you're the pixel artist that did the assets for Unity's isometric 2D tutorial. Little Rocket Lab actually started from that exact tutorial and was build into what it is today. So thank you for helping me get my start on the game!

The US has gone all-in on artificial intelligence. But the idea of an end-of-times battle with China over tomorrow’s key technology is part delusion, part lobbying tool for Silicon Valley
