Oh good, ChatGPT is getting "erotica for verified adults" later this year

We made ChatGPT pretty restrictive to make sure we were being careful with mental health issues. We realize this made it less useful/enjoyable to many users who had no mental health problems, but given the seriousness of the issue we wanted to get this right.

Now that we have been able to mitigate the serious mental health issues and have new tools, we are going to be able to safely relax the restrictions in most cases.

In a few weeks, we plan to put out a new version of ChatGPT that allows people to have a personality that behaves more like what people liked about 4o (we hope it will be better!). If you want your ChatGPT to respond in a very human-like way, or use a ton of emoji, or act like a friend, ChatGPT should do it (but only if you want it, not because we are usage-maxxing).

In December, as we roll out age-gating more fully and as part of our “treat adult users like adults” principle, we will allow even more, like erotica for verified adults.

I got a chapter done yesterday for my TGCF HuaLian AU! I have a goal of getting my AO3 incompletes to zero in before 2027. Next up, probably the last chapters of Fool's Gold, but I'm eyeing those Inuyashas too

For me it was realizing there are no thought police. I don't have to spend all hours flagellating myself for this thing or that. Or even dwell and worry on things that cause me pain.

We deserve our own minds to be playgrounds, because no one needs to know that we're not hating ourselves right now.

It's a question a LOT of creators you enjoy are asking themselves. How much do we need to protect our work, not only from greedy billionaires, but from lazy writers who'd rather steal your stuff and use AI to vomit it back up to gain attention? I'm not sure.

OpenAI already glutted on the whole of our fanfic (how else would it know what ABO is?), but knowing there are probably unscrupulous people in fandom who steal it and feed it to emulate it has made me sad, and sick. Makes you ask... should I just delete it all to protect myself?
