They call authors omnipotent, my characters beg to differ.

AI kills the planet
I think because the first "shadow daddy" I interacted with was Wei Wuxian from Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation (written by Mo Xiang Tong Xiu), I have a unique experience of them.

Because Wei Wuxian is the uwu babygirl of the series. Necromancy with a coquettish grin as it were.

"Why are people so obsessed with not letting people be themselves???"

It's because people are a lot harder to control when you accept them for who they are.

Man, I didn't think the ChatGPT/Disney deal was going to make me so sad. Like the machines in Ferngully grinding up the magical place and belching out pollution.

Disney's corporate greed started bleeding its creations of their magic decades ago, but I feel like I just watched it die. #antiAI

GenAI has the vibe of "if we just shove it down their throats enough times they'll relent and just accept it."

They're people who don't understand the meaning of No.

A #writesky gripe. Beta reading in a writer's groups is based on an understanding that your currency is your time. Having me read your book and comment it, then deciding doing the same for me is not worth the effort...

makes you an asshole.

It's finally cold enough that our aloof void kitty has become a snuggle bug. No lap is safe, especially when it is covered in a fluffy blanket.

IMO: it’s pretty accurate.

I don't give enough thought to what chronic pain does on the days it's not paining.

I was in distracting levels of pain the last couple days, and today it's finally under the threshold with pain relief, but GODS am I tired. Enduring pain is exhausting.

"Performative reading" accusations remind me too much of the type of schlock of calling women "fake fans."

Find a better hobby than policing other people enjoying things. The Jules Verne in their hand did not personally insult your mother, did it? So maybe mind your own business.

My new blog! In which I talk about one of the best movie theatre experiences of my life.

Going to watch Snakes on a Plane during its midnight premiere.

The Bard's Audience
Shakespeare's plays were meant to be a conversation with the audience! They break the fourth wall all the time and it's wonderful. Plays and art are meant to be a connection.

Watching how fragile a thing fascism is in the face of resistance and courage makes me want to write the same sort of fragile evildoers, who the second the fight comes to them they cower in the corner like the babies that they are.

Okay Libby, I should not have to do a Deep Search every time I want to read the audiobook version of a title I'm searching for. You're shoving AI down our throats and your basic search function doesn't even work.

Try to be better.

Goodbye, Lover
You know the one, with a bunch of pictures of just you with our dog, leaning against our car, cooking our dinner. Pictures I'm not in. Mostly pictures I took.

I already really hate GenAI and think about what the worst person from my high school is doing with it.

This. They're doing THIS with it.
Taking people's hard work stories and throwing it through the slop machine to poach readers. #writers #writingcommunity #writesky

My newest blog post is out! And I don't think there's much more than I need to say than this: I commission art.

I Commission Art.
Commissioning art for your books not only supports human artists (which is awesome), it can provide a creative muse and a marketing punch for your project.

Been pondering the "write for yourself / no, write for an audience" convos I've seen going around. This obviously varies for everyone, but for me it's "write for myself, edit for an audience." I can't finish a project unless I retreat into a bubble and pretend nobody will ever read it--
