How I feel about the whole Olivia Nuzzi story is that there are a lot of talented, ethical, underemployed or unemployed black and brown journalists right now who are ready to work.

This incredible profile of Gaines’ rise is a fantastic read, but more importantly it highlights how when Gaines started getting media attention days after her 200m final there was an entire ecosystem devoted to media training her and supporting her there to assist in her growth. It’s not organic.
I’ve spent a lot of the last three years investigating the rise of anti-trans politics. Often, it came back to the controversy over trans women athletes.

So I teamed up with @pablo.show to look into the leading figure on the issue: Riley Gaines.

How right-wing superstar Riley Gaines built an anti-trans empire
The swimmer tied a trans woman for fifth. The MAGA industrial complex took care of the rest.

Osgood Perkins has a good base with ‘Keeper’ that acts like a funhouse mirror when you try to guess what’s happening. The fun ends when you arrive at the exit because the mystery outweighs the explanations. New on my newsletter:

'Keeper' Is An Uneasy Nesting Doll That Gets Stuck At The Home Stretch
Osgood Perkins's latest feature lays the breadcrumbs down in the right way, but leaves much to be desired in tracing their origin.

The second half of ‘Wicked’ is already thin. But the Broadway show hides it by constantly moving. “For Good” not only mutes the emotionality of its characters, but pauses in the service of “The Wizard Of Oz” to its fault:

'Wicked: For Good' Shouldn't Have Been A Story On It's Own, But A Whole - Substream Magazine
The second half of the "Wicked" theatrical experience leaves a lot of potential on the table in service for mere existence.

Edgar Wright’s “The Running Man” is caught between a rock and a hard place. Its loyal to the book, but feels a pull to the tone of the 1987 film. There’s a large net of chronicling dystopian..but we’re way beyond the authoritarian takeover of primetime TV.

N.J. sports are expanding rules to limit blowouts. Not everyone is cheering.
Debate continues over whether mercy rules should be implemented at all.
