If someone tells you MOBY DICK is about "obsession," they have not read MOBY DICK.

What's your totally ordinary opinion about books that you nonetheless find compelled to share when asked on a social media site such as this one for your most extreme/unhinged/hottest takes?

I'll go first: manga is popular among young people because manga often features young people.

When stories start popping up in multiple outlets saying liberals are warming to MTG or Nick Fuentes, and they’re not, it’s probably a good thing to start asking why.

And then, remember that Bush Era Republicans and the Cheneys were embraced and then liberal think tanks got funded by the Koch’s.

My unhinged legal opinion is that TOSes, EULAs, and "privacy policies" should be banned, or at least severely restricted in scope. You can have a plain-language Code Of Conduct, maybe a short, clear disclaimer, but anything that requires a lawyer to draft should require a lawyer to assent.

POLITICO: “.. They referred to Black people as monkeys and ‘the watermelon people’ and mused about putting their political opponents in gas chambers. They talked about raping their enemies .. and lauded Republicans who they believed support slavery.

‘96% of healthcare professionals said the model helps to reduce children’s anxiety, and 46% reported a lesser need to use sedation after the children played with the set.‘

‘Lego doesn’t sell the sets and instead has donated more than 10,000 of the kits to hospitals around the world.’

I can’t help but think today about how many young people were savaged on social media, branded as anti-semites and abandoned by their schools for daring to call for a ceasefire. I remember saying that it was the first time I can remember that calling for ceasefire was regarded as a hostile demand.

I see a lot of people saying his ignorance is just sham, a cheap act, but you have to remember that a huge amount of his mental bandwidth is taken up by the essential processes of monitoring and cataloging his son's masturbation habits.

REPORTER: We know the president moved forward with mass layoffs. We're also learning there were significant cuts to staff at special education services. Are you comfortable with those cuts?

MIKE JOHNSON: I haven't seen the specifics of that and I don't know

Happy Columbo’s Day
Screenshot from Columbo. He his talking to his dog, which is sitting is the drivers seat of a car. “Okay, I’m gonna put you in charge. You take care of the car. You’re a responsible dog. When I get back, if the car’s okay, I’ll give you another cookie.” “If the car’s gone,” “I’ll give you another cookie anyway” “because I love you.”

What The Hell Is Going On, a thread:

I’ve seen some thinkpieces and posts about Portland protests that fail to understand the long-term hyperspecificity of Portland culture/humor, and frame it as a sort of shitposting meme-pilled ironic thing. Which is wrong.

So I’m gonna give you my breakdown.

CBS News would never put a thinly sourced 'story' by a rookie blogger like this on it's air. Until now. The Free Press isn't a journalism outlet, it's bloggers aren't reporters. This piece is more NYPost than Tiffany Network but I guess that's the goal.

If you think you know why US newspapers died, this feature documentary now streaming for free on PBS might surprise you. It wasn't the Internet. Newspapers were specifically targeted by vulture capitalists.

I composed the score for the film, which features electric cello & Crowfoot guitars.

In case you’re hearing about the “protest that turned violent” in Boston last week, here’s the “violence” in question, per the police report
Following the protest, four officers were taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries. One officer had a broken nose and had his glasses broken, another was treated for pepper spray exposure, one sustained a finger injury while handcuffing and another sustained a lower back injury attempting to make an arrest.

I just learned on a podcast yesterday that the reason stalls in America have horrible gaps that are easy to see through is intentional so people can look in and make sure you're only doing approved stuff, so this nosey pervert thing is built into our national character

I've noticed the opposing team's fans only cheer when the opponents score on us. To win those fans over, I recommend we score on ourselves repeatedly; that will surely make them so happy they'll start supporting us. And I'm sure all our fans will keep cheering for us—who else is there to cheer for?

In 2006-7 I worked for Jeff Bezos. I only interacted with him in bi-weekly meetings, and this is over 15 years ago now, so he's only gotten more like this, but trust me when I tell you: Jeff Bezos isn't a person. Technically he is human, but that's as far as goes. He is a brand. 🧵

Racking my brain to come up with the least crazy “personal” reason Jeff Bezos wants to get to Mars…
Sarah Larson: Once again I'm reflecting on the time I interviewed a powerful guy who knows Jeff Bezos, and who offhandedly told me, "Jeff has personal reasons for wanting to get to Mars... I'm not comfortable sharing what they are"

Word around the HexCrank chat is that the second playthrough is shorter, closer to 3 hours, and does contain some actual coherent story. (Though Required Second Play is still some bullshit, imo.)

I recently replaced my aging iPad with a Samsung Galaxy Tab--they've gotten a lot more competitive in the drawing department, and I actually like the s-pen more than the Apple Pencil (also the pen is included with the tablet). I also migrated to Clip Studio, but android does have procreate clones.
