If I never have to scan another QR code in my life I will die happy. Bring back physical instruction manuals and menus.
The digital divide is real and fucking annoying even to those of us who can traverse it.

I get that the news cycle is packed right now, but I just heard from a colleague at the Smithsonian that this is fully a GIANT SQUID BEING EATEN BY A SPERM WHALE and it’s possibly the first ever confirmed video according to a friend at NOAA

10 YEAR OLD ME IS LOSING HER MIND (a thread 🧵)
I would watch the crap out of this.
Genndy Tartakovsky shared test footage from his film ‘The Black Knight’. It follows a knight who controls a 20ft suit of armor. Sony isn't sure there's an audience for the film and haven’t greenlit it yet.

After Kpop demon hunters success I don't understand why Sony are dragging their feet on this!

Gently: instead of whatabouting the Kimmel thing, you can use the win to motivate people who are new to collective action.

Don’t punish behavior you want to see, especially if you want to see more of it.
When I got out of work last night, there was a notification on my phone that my hold on @tkingfisher.com's Hemlock and Silver had come up. So I hit borrow but it was a long week so I didn't start it until this morning. I just finished it. The dedication especially made me smile.
José was one of my professors for my MFA and was on my thesis committee. Going to go ahead and say this is worth a read.
From Michael Agresta, in books: José Skinner knows this material inside and out, and he’s delivered a convincing vision of the Texas-Mexico borderlands in these dark times.
‘The Search Committee’ Is a Subtle Rebuke of the Border Literary Canon
José Skinner’s fast-paced satire delivers sharp insights gleaned from years lived in Mexico and the Rio Grande Valley.

“IP law is increasingly a one-way system of rich over not, as Internet Archive found out.”

PREACH!

I'd accept a compromise of "everything can be used in the big AI model if the big AI model is freely available."

But walk out of OpenAI or Google with their AI models and you'll be chased by lawyers and feds. IP law is increasingly a one-way system of rich over not, as Internet Archive found out.

That's part of what burns me. I'd be less salty about every single LLM including the entirety of my legal blog (via Common Crawl) if Internet Archive hadn't been held liable for lending out single-copy scans of books it owns. That's not a coherent system, that's "big money always wins."

Getting lost in Jeffrey Epstein file is that Pam Bondi was the Attorney General of Florida (2011 to 2019) when Epstein was running his child sex ring in Florida. What is in the Epstein files about Pam Bondi? Did she protect Epstein as Florida AG?!! Did she protect Trump? More reasons we need file!
Probably asked ChatGPT to make it for them.

Got an author proof of my book!

Glad I did, as I noted at least formatting thing I need to fix before I make the paperback available.

What do you guys think of the formatting on the tagline on the back? Might change it to "The Three Musketeers 'meet' Gundam" just to get the verbs to look better.

I cannot express how much I adore the teas from Friday Afternoon Tea. Their wide range of delicious decaf teas mean I can enjoy something hot and tasty with breakfast. Bonus points if you like nerdy stuff, too, because they carry some incredible fandom blends.
Almost halfway to our total goal, coming up on another scary deadline this week. If we can't pull together $8k ASAP, we're lookin at another penalty fee.

That 1st chunk of change cleared our highest-penalty debt, so already the fees of our debt are much less frightening. Time to clear the next one!
We're 38% of the way there! Right on track to do this by end of summer, yeah? Let's keep the hype rolling and help us kick our survival debt in the teeth.

This fund is here to help us keep our brick & mortar communitea space by eliminating our "death by one thousand cuts!"

The incident was five days ago??? And I'm getting an alert now? This gets more and more inane. Go to hell and step on every lego brick ever made on your way there, whomever decided to send this out.
And for that matter, why can I turn off Amber Alerts but not blue? if I'm going to be forced to care, it should be about a missing kid, not a cop. Especially in a city 4 hours away. Fuck off.
In the wake of the flooding in Kerr county and the lack of adequate alerts there, I can not emphasize how little I fucking care about a blue alert. Shit like this is why people have their alerts turned off.
One of my city's nicknames is Military City, USA. I'm worried about what is going to happen to all my international students. I've seen it get ugly here before.
Ooh need to spend some time with the resources here.

Luddites weren't anti-tech.

They were against technology being used by the capitalist class to capture wealth at the expense of the worker.

I am a Luddite, and a tech enthusiast. They're not in opposition. I want technology that makes MY life better, not that sells my life piecemeal to corps.
I hate crypto, I hate online gambling, I hate AI, I hate pay-later, I hate subscription models, I hate the gig economy, I hate ring cameras, I hate drones, I hate self checkout.

I don't want to come off as a luddite but capitalism's hold on tech sucks.
