I maintain that the people who push ai so strongly a) think it's great because it is at the same level as their writing ability and b) cannot tell the difference between that and good writing
We had an AI expert in to give a talk last week, and when it was time for questions I asked, "Do AI researchers talk about the fact that the quality of the writing is bad and it has obvious tells professional writers quickly picked up on?"
The answer was, no, they do not apparently know that.
