I just (finally) registered for the NYC Gaza 5k to raise money for UNRWA mental health services. If you've got a few bucks (or many), please consider chipping in to support an organization standing in the gap getinvolved.unrwausa.org/fundraiser/6...

Many organizations are delivering different privacy options based on location data (from yr IP address), so delivering a more arm-twisty/ invasive setup to most US users. Also, folx are less afraid of being charged for non-obvious violations of GDPR (like an EU citizen visiting a site from w/in US)

The rules have not changed, we just have really weak data privacy laws in the US, allowing these kinds of dark patterns. California’s a bit better, but there are carve-outs for certain cases in the CCPA. There have been some changes, but more a result of experimentation 1/2

…and for kidnapping his daughter and then leaking that they did so to the papers. Instead, he folded (understandable, they had his kid) and got absolutely no credit from them for it

My goodness, if the kind of cops who threaten this nonsense actually walked off the force and never looked back… what a wonderful this would be 🎶

the actual story here, which the media never talks about, is that police in this country have become a discrete right-wing political operation. the story isn't about cops leaving (they're lying about that), it's about the police trying to exert influence over elections.

Lmao is this supposed to be a bad thing?
A tweet from Bari Weiss that says “"It's shaken me to my core," a lieutenant said of Mamdani's unexpected victory in June. "The absolute dread I feel is palpable.

Today in @TheFP our @Olivia_Reingold talks to the cops who say they will walk if Zohran Mamdani is elected in November:”

This is a really important thread for everyone who calls themselves a progressive. We need to challenge the narratives we’ve been told about safety and danger.

THREAD. Did you know that at about 1/3 of all stranger homicides in the U.S. are perpetrated by police? But there's something hidden here that is important to understand in this authoritarian moment.

Oh shit, when was this? That’s my neighborhood! And I was in a race today that dude showed up at… I’m always a minute too late for a selfie, lmao

One of the many things I wish I had been wrong about is saying that back in the nineties, our leaders looked at climate change and said: We can’t do shit about this without measures we find unacceptable, so future generations will just have to deal with it via machine guns, fences and attack dogs.

As the days pass, the worry of rent and food remains what weighs on me the most — just to keep my children safe and stable.😓
We’ve come this far thanks to your kind hearts.
Please, help me secure one more month of peace and stability for them.🙏

I ask you, from my heart — be part of this step. ❤️

Thankfully, some of yesterday's CDC firings have been rescinded.

But this should be a major scandal, not business as usual in this shitshow of an administration. It's either spectacular incompetence or an effort to make even politically untouchable positions feel precarious to those in them.

100s of #CDC employees were notified Friday they were being fired — RIF'd. The firings cross multiple parts of the agency, endangering its core mission of keeping Americans safe.
Saturday, some were informed they were RIF'd in error.

It also takes a fair amount of misplaced good faith to assume that fascists will respect the self-identification of people opposed to fascism. Ridiculous assumption

Crucial article (& 🧵) on how ill-equipped many in the media are to meet the moment. Both-sidesing reality against lies and propaganda designed to facilitate violent repression is not just journalistic malpractice. It is active complicity in fascist violence

This week, MAGA figures claimed Kristi Noem "stared down" violent antifa protesters in Portland. Turns out they were talking mostly about a guy in a chicken suit.

This episode opens a window into how MAGA propaganda works and MSM failure to handle it. 1/

MAGA Implodes over Kristi Noem’s “Stare Down” with Man in Chicken Suit
A good New York Times piece on Portland nevertheless demonstrates how the conventions of objective reporting fail to accurately capture the bad faith driving pro-Trump propaganda.

I also hope it holds. And the IOF treating a ceasefire start time as a deadline by which to slaughter as many people as possible is not new. But I still hold hope that it will hold, and the IOF will allow food, water, and medicine in. And cynicism is well-earned
