We had Angela Davis speak at my university a couple of years back. One of the many insightful things she said - protest in the way that aligns with your passion. If that’s poetry do poetry or music etc. Because then you will be able to sustain it. If naked bike rides are your passion, 100% do that.

And, ultimately, it's because nobody in Albo's government wants any structural changes. They're the winners in the status quo. They don't want to sacrifice that.

I think people think Albo et al have good intentions or are just incompetent. I don't. I reckon they're doing exactly what they wanted.

As of now there is nothing Albanese's govt has done that has changed the country in any structural way.

No change at all to how the fundamental debates of the nation are addressed.

In terms of NZ Pol, a party that basically explicitly campaigns on (further) disempowering Indigenous people is given custodianship of infrastructure to empower Indigenous people. Same as in Australia - a party that doesn’t believe in Indigenous sovereignty will expect to negotiate how it happens.

This is a fundamental dissonance in politics that frequently irks me.

One party will say - ‘well, nobody should have this ever’
Another will say - ‘we think everyone should’

When the first party loses, they still expect to have a say in how party two implements the policy.

A better result than I expected, given the demographics and embedded racism in our country.

In areas that lost, I'd love to know whether the numbers have improved since any previous referendum.

I can’t stress enough that if you’re writing anything longer than a couple of paragraphs, spend time thinking about formatting, layout, readability and design.

The amount of work it takes to get to “compelling and professional advocacy” from “unhinged rant” is ten minutes of using a style sheet.
