AI videos suck for soooo many reasons, but one of the worst so far is telling my mum the parrot she’s been following on IG is AI, and her saying ‘it’s okay, I just feel stupid’. Stop making my very clever mum fell stupid, you bastards!!

I want to make a time loop movie where everything is slightly different on each loop and people get gradually older and stuff and everyone remembers what happened in the previous loops.

the fact that dealing with rampant lying and its much worse downstream consequences involves cultivating values rather than just imposing formal frameworks or rules (legal or otherwise) is a tough pill to swallow for some. but it is indeed medicine
Pointing out that something is incorrect definitely isn't sufficient - the *culture* of "it is bad to make incorrect statements, good to promptly and clearly retract and apologize for them, and disqualifying to keep making them deliberately" is the framework needed for fact-checking to plug into.

liberal zionism has now concluded that mass murdering fascists like Netanyahu are not only acceptable allies, but are more deserving of unswerving fealty than innocent Palestinian children.

Don't ever defend atrocities. Foot in the door theory is real. Eventually, you end up here.

A Quick Case Study in Fake/Real Evaluation

Just got presented this ad. It struck me as odd. I think it’s an ai-generated image. Here’s how I investigate that.

A lot of people think disinformation is fought by being individually smarter or making individuals smarter. But, actually, community and collective engagement is the only true defence. Truth is fluid in today’s world because individuals are isolated and disconnected from each other. Solve that.

Most creative industries run on a business model that demands creatives constantly feed it with pitched ideas or free work on spec, but offers them no long-term employment or financial security. These industries are *subsidized* by the other work artists are forced to take on to support themselves.
Honestly, people calling creators the "petite bourgeoisie" makes me want to snap.

We're working folk. And we work really hard. For next to nothing.

We're not lounging around eating bonbons. We're trying to figure out how we're going to be able to pay rent next month.

Today I had a very emotional conversation at work and at the end they said ‘we really value you - it’s okay to tell us when you feel upset or unsafe here and we’ll always do our best to help you feel safer and more secure’ and that sincere, caring, thoughtful response has wrecked my ptsd ass.

Pfft, they always say this, and then we always do, and then there’s always new and terrifying extreme weather events, and then we always approve more coal and gas projects, and then we always etc etc

Australia recorded ZERO cases of cervical cancer in women under 25 for the first time since they started tracking the cancer in the 80s.

This is the power of vaccines.

The HPV vaccine is extremely effective at preventing cancer.

Viruses can be oncogenic. Get your vaccines and protect yourself!

Vaccination programs have played a key role, and GPs remain ‘instrumental’ in boosting screening rates to reach the 2035 target.

Dracula’s gonna finally find love with a 13 year old who he’ll later dump when she’s older so he can date the 19 year old lead of fifth element.

You know. Like Luc Besson did. Because he is shit.
Wow where did he get an amazing idea like that

three people buying a book we didn't really have on our radar at my old bookstore was instant "order more, face it out, somebody on staff read it and write a talker for it" territory
I once asked a bookseller at a large indie store how many people would have to buy a book for it to get the attention of the store buyer and cause an additional order and they said: Three.
I see some book piracy discourse, and, to make a positive argument in favor of buying books, your marginal ability to influence what books get published and support the careers of writers you like is massive compared to most other forms of media.

I’m being hunted by phantoms. They’re very close. But I think I’ve worked out a plan to escape them. I’ll simply use my magic ring, which sends me into the phantom dimension, where phantoms are from, and where I’ll only be visible by people who have phantom vision, such as phantoms

imagine if Labor cabinet ministers & MPs had an ounce of the character & courage of Senator Fatima Payman—they could prevent harms, achieve positive changes or at the least represent their constituents instead of Big Business, miners, weapons corps, financiers, property developers, landlords etc
Senator Payman: "The more I’ve lived and worked in public life, the more I’ve come to realise that bravery isn’t about never feeling afraid. It’s about recognising fear for what it is and choosing to act anyway. It’s a choice open to us all, not just those whose names end up in the history books."

“Well, if welfare was nice, then unemployed people wouldn’t feel bad??”

This government is incapable of understanding that actively making people feel bad for being unemployed is a strange and monstrous policy.
Labor's employment minister rep admits that payment suspensions "cause harm", but they're "an important part" of the (unlawful) mutual obligations system, because

"At the end of the day we want ppl to get off payments and find a job"

gross 'best form of welfare is a job' stuff from the ALP here

This is a story about a lovely man with a lovely body of work but is also emblematic of a contemporary music press populated predominantly by privileged white dudes. Much of the article is still built around a premise of meritocracy and good rising to the top that is just… so absurd in today’s era.
"I look at that, and I have affection for a young man. It’s a Saturday night, and I’m at a typewriter with the fucking headphones on. I’m putting in the work. I’m doing it."— @themountaingoats.bsky.social's John Darnielle to Grayson Haver Currin for @GQmagazine.bsky.social

To put it another way: People don’t think you’re useless because they don’t know what you’re doing, Albo. They think you’re useless because they *do* know what you’re doing. It’s not a marketing or PR problem. It’s a product problem.
It feels illustrative that the Qld LNP govt and the federal Labor govt seem to have the same comms rn. Both are pumping out message after message of ‘look, we’re helping, we’re doing stuff, look’. Suggests they’re both getting feedback of ‘you’re not doing anything useful’. And, not examining why…
