You gently run your hand through the rack. You can feel it—pure cotton, rich wool, Irish linen. The plump buttonholes are handsewn; the buttons attached with a firm shank. You flip the price tag over. It's affordable

You buy the jacket and go home, which is only 15 mins away. Your apt is $600/month

Alert. And engaged. And not about to flee. I’m so proud of him. This morning was stressful because a stranger had to come into the apartment and make noise and there was noise in the entire building. He reverted to hiding behind the washing machine, which is his ultimate hiding place.
Misha, a black smoke tabby, lounging on his chair in the living room. He looks relaxed and not like he is about to flee.

"look guys this is really simple. either we do this or the fucking raccoons do it. it's gonna be one of us eating out of garbage cans and one of us getting soft beds and indoor temperature control and toys. if you want the garbage can, more power to you. tell me sometime how the raccoons are doing"

just imagining the debate at Fox Council like

"are we sure we want to do this? There are essential questions of dignity and -"
"they GIVE YOU FOOD and they PET YOU why is this even a discussion"
"do you WANT to wear an embarrassing costume?"

reading how foxes are self-selecting now, on an evolutionary basis, for "sociable with humans" and then seeing a flood of "this fox decided to be fwiends with me" videos and it's like foxes finally decided that that one particular group of wolves had the right idea when they decided to become dogs

I am here for a work trip and the Raptor Research Foundation conference. We've seen nine king vultures so far, it has been absolutely incredible! 🪶

Today I was thinking about small kindnesses, simple inexpensive things that brighten a day, and I thought about how the receptionist at my school saved me from humiliation in front of the Headmaster on account of having left my belt in a vase.

Cached US Kindle giveaway: 6 copies of @tkingfisher.com's What Moves the Dead (Sworn Soldier Book 1), a very good first contact story masquerading (see what I did there?) as a Poe story. This is hard SF, I claim. The 3rd book just came out, and I liked it.

The image captures a view of an indoor museum with an arched, stained-glass window at the far end. The window is the source of natural light, which is reflected in a long, narrow pool of water in the center of the hall. Along both sides of the pool are walkways where visitors are viewing sculptures. The photograph is framed by an ornate, teal-and-cream-colored architectural structure in the foreground, adding depth and visual interest to the scene.

imo it'd be good to focus on getting more men of all ages out there in general, as well as younger people - who of course also have more demands on their time, but that's what doing stuff like organizing childcare would help a lot with

A 13-year-old boy was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Everett after an interaction with members of the Everett Police Department and sent to a juvenile detention facility in Virginia, according to his mother and immigration lawyer Andrew Lattarulo.

The boy’s mother, Josiele Berto, was called to pick her son up from the Everett Police Department on Thursday, the day he was arrested. After waiting for about an hour and a half, she was told her son was taken by ICE, Berto told the Globe in a phone interview.

“My world collapsed,” Berto said in Portuguese.

From the police department, the boy was taken to ICE’s holding facility in Burlington on Thursday evening, where he spent a night before being transferred by car to the Northwestern Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Winchester, Va., on Friday morning, his mother said. The juvenile facility is more than 500 miles away from Everett.

The boy is a 7th-grader at Albert N. Parlin School in Everett, his mother said. The teen and his family, who are Brazilian nationals, have a pending asylum case and are authorized to work legally in the United States, Lattarulo said.
