A Purple-Washed Eyed-Metalmark butterfly painted digitally. Its pointed, scalloped edged chocolate brown wings have large eye markings on the top set, framed by purple lines. The lower wings see those lines reverse to brown with a pale metallic purple background. The entire butterfly is accented in gold leaf on a dark background. A small preview image of all 29 of my recent butterfly series arranged in a pleasing color order. A preview image of digital paintings of 30 succulent plants ranging from pink to red and through the rainbow, including neutrals. These succulents are all chosen for their natural, if sun-stressed colors. They are set in neat rows on a black background to showcase the amazing color range. A pale woman in a royal blue cloak and dusty purple dress steps down a rocky hillside in a towering pine forest. The autumnal brush covers the hillside around her, and the light filtering down through the trees catches browning pine needles. Behind her a gray blue highlights a clearing she recently left.

With frothy sea surf crawling towards the camera, a brown and white bird jumps up into the air above the inbound water with its wings stretched all the way up.

A mandatory duck in pastels I did a few weeks ago. I'm really pleased with my progress in pastels. Practice practice practice.

Every time I tell my kid about a TikTok trend so he can stay ahead of potentially stupid kids at school: “UH… I would NEVER do that. Why are people so stupid?”

There’s hope, is all I’m saying.

That’s a plus for sure. :) Hope this years’ treat you kindly.

Conservatives smear campaigning hard on NextDoor (nothing new, only on there to check for free wood furniture).

Saw one decrying free breakfast/lunch and went to give him a piece of my mind and was gratified to see almost 40 comments by people calling out his bullshit.

This feels… excellent.

I would but my kids have been trading off getting sick at school for over a month and a half and the window of “no virus in the house” has been entirely too short.

Shells - ancient and modern - from the beach at Redcar. The modern oyster was considerably more battered than the 200 million year old ones. Watercolour painting.

🐡
Watercolour painting of shells found on the beach at Redcar, northeast England; there is a modern oyster shell on the left, showing outside and inside, though it is very sea-worn. The remainder are fossils from the lower Jurassic period (c200mya) - Cardinia bivalves, a fragment of Ammonite and Gryphaea oysters.

Have you ever been lost in a video game level, wandering empty halls, until you know you're going the right way because you finally run into enemies? Because you don't know what to do without conflict? Well some people live their real lives that way

Million goddamn percent

People are fucking sick of being miserable and the more the opposition is defined as “NOT a bunch of angry mean creepy sourpusses” the better

Like I know there are edgelord leftists out there who look down their noses at shit like No Kings but sorry you guys, the more mass protest looks fun and family-friendly, the bigger it gets and the better its chances of being broadly effective

#Birdtober Day 11: Arctic Tern

I decided not to crop out the other birds when taking this photo, I think it looks kind of fun. I used my own reference photo from when a wayward Arctic Tern came to visit Minnesota, though mine was in non-breeding plumage

#birdtober day 10 is the Arctic Tern. These guys have such amazing lines they deserved an action pose!

A digital painting of an arctic tern against a blue sky in gray and white with sweeping wing lines and a tail that sweeps outward in long arcs flies towards the viewer, red orange beak open. Further away and behind it another flies to the right and down towards the water, its feet tucked up under it and tail sweeping behind.

Started sketching this a few years ago and decided I’m ready to finish it. I completed the inking tonight and I have lots of details to add in coloring stage. (They are the morning and evening star)
