Clear writing shows clear thinking. Always has, always will. AI creates the illusion that if the words look smart, the thinking must be too. But you can’t fake the work behind the words, no matter how good the tools make them look.

The Future Belongs to Clear Thinkers, Not Fast Writers
Clear writing shows clear thinking. AI hasn’t changed that. But the idea that a prompt can turn anyone into a seasoned writer is a load of crap.

Jotted down some thoughts that have been rattling around in my head about how AI is the domain of the olds.

My new year's resolution was to let people know when I think something is good and it's been a roaring success. Highly recommended.
I’ve sometimes fallen into the trap of thinking that complementing a creative person for their work is less sophisticated or desired than discussion or debate about it but very often the best thing you can say to them is hell yeah and that doesn’t make you dumb it just makes you nice

Robots, Humans, and the Edges of the Open Web
This episode explores what the “open web” truly means amid shifting standards, AI automation, and evolving economic pressures. Drawing on discussions from IETF 124 and W3C TPAC, it highlights how browser architects, policy experts, and researchers are reexamining long-held assumptions about access, interoperability, and the role of automated agents. Learn why openness isn’t a binary state but a multidimensional spectrum shaped by values such as attribution, consent, and continuity. The conversation offers a grounded look at how technical governance and community norms must adapt to keep the web both usable and sustainable.

I might be even more thrilled for the entire @fermyon.com and #Akamai teams here than they are. Akamai has realized that it could put together a next-gen cloud native platform that both enables and pushes a huge amount of work far, far closer to the users than ever. And Fermyon....
Today, we are super thrilled to announce that Fermyon is now part of Akamai Technologies.

Fermyon’s vision of building the next generation of serverless computing slots perfectly into Akamai’s own vision for the future of edge technology.

Helluva line in this Outside interview with actor Joel Edgerton:

“We can build and create things, but we're also moving closer to destroying the planet. We see ourselves almost like some alien race lording over everything.”

Joel Edgerton Talks 'Train Dreams,' Nature, and Finding Peace in the Wild
The Australian actor grew up on the edge of a forest and never quite left it behind. Now, with ‘Train Dreams’ on Netflix, he’s exploring what it means to live—and lose—our connection to the wild.

IDC’s new vendor profile from Dave McCarthy, Jennifer Cooke, and Jasdeep Singh nails why AI inference is pushing hard toward the edge. I wrote about how that shift maps to Akamai’s own evolution and distributed cloud architecture. Good reading for cloud/edge/AI folks.

As we all set off on holiday travel a few reminders of gratitude:
- most people travel only a handful of times in their lifetime
- trips many of us go on multiple times per year are once-in-a-lifetime, bucket list trips for many people
- most people sit in economy seats, even on long haul flights

While everyone else was lined up for Wicked last night, I popped in to see Rental Family. Couple of observations:

* So many people in the lobby dressed as witches. Very cool.

* Brendan Fraser is a fricken treasure. Put him in everything.

* Writer/director Hikari creates beautiful art.

I'll never write like Bourdain, Buffett, or Hemingway, but I still take notes at the end of the day when I travel and make an attempt at wrapping them in nouns and verbs when I get home.

Greece gives you the postcard views, sure. But it’s the moments you’d write on the back that stay with you — backing a stick-shift down a village hill, lazy taverna lunches, flaneuring the day away…
