Well, my author copies came this week, which means it is really real.

If you want to review it for a journal or a podcast, if you want me to talk to your class about deindustrialization or hollywood's perpetual search for lower production costs, or if you just think it's neat, please @ me!
this is very cool but shout out the roboto project for introducing this sort of thing to me and my friends circa 2000
Good morning I’m in @theverge.com profiling @ekkoastral.bsky.social @jael.bsky.social and some other cool trans musicians who are bringing the organizing energy they learned from being trans online to music venues across the country. These musicians are meeting the moment.

I was at my old high school today, for the first time in over twenty years, to talk to the teachers about how their curriculum can better support students. AI came up, and so many teachers were saying "Well it's a tool, they have to know how to use it, it's the future so we have to accept it!"
it's "flagpole sitta" followed by "never there" but "jumpin jumpin" remains a jam

The World Cup belongs to countries run by despots and totalitarian regimes and has for awhile because that's how FIFA likes it. I see no reason to believe that will change.
It’s important to remember that FIFA didn’t give the U.S. the 2026 World Cup as a pivot from the “bad” countries that hosted previously.

The U.S. is hosting the 2026 World Cup because it is one of the bad countries.
FIFA effectively agreeing the Donald Trump and remove cities from World Cup hosting with this statement. He suggested yesterday Gianni would agree with whatever he wanted.

I know I sound like the people in the early days of the internet here, but re education the answer seems obvious - don’t use it! Not all learning needs to be done on a computer! The idea that it does is extremely new!

Chicago’s East Side neighborhood has a history of being one place where industry concentrates its most polluting elements. That environmental racism plus the release of multiple forms of chemical weapons today exacerbates terrible health consequences for a mostly Latino working class community.
masked federal agents used multiple canisters of tear gas + other chemical munitions on a crowd of residents in chicago's southeast side around 12:40 p.m.

neighbors had gathered on a residential intersection following a morning during which dozens of border patrol agents terrorized the community.

my latest investigation for @consumerreports.org is based on months of reporting and 60+ lab tests of leading protein supplements

we found that most protein powders and shakes have more lead in one serving than our experts say is safe to have in a day (🧵)

Federal Secret Police and plainclothes ICE agents kidnap multiple people from a neighborhood in Chicago. They then deploy teargas and brutally beat neighbors who come out to express their concern.

The people who visit the league website are the people who *care about the league* and what this signals is that the league would rather save a few bucks than serve them. Same message as killing extratime, btw
I wrote hundreds of match recaps & edited hundreds more for this site back in the day. It’s not just MLS - I’m increasingly convinced soccer will “fail” because at this moment when U.S.-based fans love it more than ever, there is a rapidly shrinking media ecosystem covering the sport. We are screwed

MLS is using generative AI to write match recaps. Writers used to get paid freelance rates to do that. Hssssss.

What an absolute treasure Diane Keaton was. Her wit never tired, nor did her style.
This little ass. Disappeared all day. I thought she snuck out of the house or curled up to die somewhere. Canceled plans to host an oktoberfest party. Walked around the neighborhood in the rain looking for her. Agonized about when to tell my partner. She was just hiding in the basement all day long.
Cosign, it rules. Also: I burned this on a cd for my dad, he'd cackle and sing "Celine Dion / Shoulda been on / THE TITANNNNIC" (and he liked celine!)

UNTIL IT’S DONE, Ep. 4: Sylvia Rivera

In the 1970s, queer New Yorkers had been pushed to the margins of NYC. Our trans neighbors faced immense cruelty. But in Sylvia Rivera, they found a champion.

As we combat Trump’s politics of darkness, her legacy can light the path forward.
