If you allow Nova Scotia Power to make automatic withdrawals from your account, a couple thoughts: 1) Bless your soul. You are too pure for this world. 2) Revoke permission. Tout suite.
Nova Scotia Power billed customer $500 for a cottage that’s had power shut off for a year | CBC News
Eric Orde, 89, says the power bill for the cottage he’s owned outside of Annapolis Royal for 35 years is usually around $50 — not $500 — when it's not being used.

I honestly think that many people don't know what their public libraries offer besides books. I think that everyone should go on a public library treasure hunt in 2026. Go explore what your library systems offer at no cost to you. Report back to me :)
“I miss blockbuster video” the library has every dvd totally untouched and I never see you there

Since user fees discourage behavior we could put tolls on the bridges and charge for hospital parking to reduce congestion.

Winter is one of the best times to educate people about car-centric policies because when it's snowy you can clearly see how little our cities care about anyone not traveling in a car. Even if you're not some activist, someone walking in winter can appreciate how much an unplowed sidewalk sucks.
This was a choice, not by the person walking but by the decision makers who refuse to prioritize them.

Quick reminder: you have the right for your health information to be accurate & up to date under Nova Scotia’s Personal Health Information Act (PHIA).

If you can’t edit information directly, check the privacy policy. At minimum should be a contact who can direct requests.
Phew, if you're using the YourHealthNS app, the patient summary is worth a little check...

Mine reads like it's AI-generated, including hallucinations.

The thing to understand about "age verification" laws is that they are not just for kids

The only way to "stop kids from doing xyz online" using age-gating is to demand a government ID (or invasive biometric face scan) from EVERYONE.

This means associating your gov ID with EVERYTHING YOU DO ONLINE

We need to print a wallet sized version of this with HRM-related notes and give one to every member of Halifax Regional Council!!
It's budget time so at the end of our interview w/ Mayor Bachynski, we gave him a printed poster of the image below. It's the density vs services vs taxes venn diagram that @brenttoderian.bsky.social often shares around. It includes Regina-related explanatory notes. #yqrcc

Canada made weird tv shows because it was all being done with government funded art grant money so they fell in this wacky middle ground between “shoestring budget” and “no expectation to generate shareholder value” which is really the best way to make art

For the record, the traffic diverter would have improved safety not only for cycling, but for pedestrians and drivers as well. The area has speeding issues on Harvard which would be prevented with this diverter. Safety, traffic easing, enhancing other forms of transportation. These are the benefits.
Well, Halifax's newest modal filter – an essential part of the Allan/Oak local street bikeway – lasted less than 24h before being torn out. #BikeHfx

Not to be too dramatic but if this is true then the province has essentially stripped residents of the HRM of their power as vested in our municipal democracy.
Construction workers told me that the province intervened via the Department of Labour and had them remove the diverter. I haven't confirmed that info in any way however.
