I’ll give Grave of the Fireflies a miss. Like Schindler’s List, it’s a film that everyone should see once, but not more than once.
Akira, however, is a different story. I travelled the UK to watch showings back in the day.
As for the big G, that’s a family outing.

On Signal:
1. No publicly available comms are completely secure in and of themselves.
2. Never underestimate the ability of someone to do something mind-bogglingly stupid.
3. Never put anything online or on a device you think you own that you would not want to be brought up in court. (1/2)

and it's all because that lying sack of shit Wakefield wanted to make money from the vaccine he had developed and so went around lying about the competing and more convenient vaccine; it's one of the earliest dominoes in how we got to some of today's real problems

Anyone had any contact with "More than a classic book club" and/or Aida Kane, based out of Toronto? Another day, another contact that might be genuine and might be a scam. There's a Meetup page, but I don't know if that means anything, and the events they have up are all for literary, not genre.

TIL that phone manufacturers have sold devices that will brick themselves permanently if you try to roll back the OS or install a custom ROM.
The article’s about OnePlus phones but I’m not surprised to see Samsung get a dishonourable mention too. (1/2)

In the latest episode of #Frieren they drop a new character who knows he’s going to fail and die in his quest, but he’s all right with that because he knows what will happen later.

Or, how to make the back story the front story and make you sad for someone who’s here and gone.

I love this show.

If someone asks if you are a god, you say yes.

If someone asks if you are a wizard, your best play is to just smirk smugly and say nothing.

Had a call from the Green Party a few days back, asking if I'd join the local WhatsApp group. Whatsapp is owned by Meta, a company building giant energy-burning AI datacentres around the world. So no, I won't. Joined-up thinking is better, and Signal is really good for group comms.

Looking at micro SD cards online and Ggl has an awful lot of “2TB Sandisk Extreme Pro” offers for under UK £15 in its sponsored products at the top of the screen.

Oh for the love of Nyarlathotep! “Chinese restaurants are a Fifth Column” was being lampooned in the late 1970s / early 1980s.

I would exhort the Daily Heil to come up with something original, but I’m not sure they’re capable of it.
