Leading economist: Continuing fossil fuels is "futile" because it leads to mass-death and economic collapse.

The fossil fuel industry's product isn't oil, or gas, or energy — it's murder and theft. Full stop.
Climate investment is only growth opportunity of 21st century, says leading economist
Lord Stern says fossil-fuelled growth is futile as the damage it causes ends in economic self-destruction

I used to think people just didn’t understand what Columbus did but now I think some are really attached to him (as opposed to other worthy italians to celebrate) because their whole thing is not only getting away with doing horrible things but forcing everyone to praise them for being horrible

"A poll conducted in May found that 64 percent of Israelis don’t want additional information on what happens in Gaza. The media, created by and for the people, is both complicit in constructing, and blinded by, this national ethos."

Israeli media's distorted view of the war in Gaza
While global news showed a humanitarian disaster, most outlets in Israel remained silent.

I have known many cats and I've worshiped them all as the ancient pact requires, but if I'm being honest, my favorites were always the ones where we had to constantly say "She's not mean, that's just her face"

I found a 19th century Cat Villain!
A huge chonk of a fluffy cat sitting on a table near an open fire. The cat is cream and grey and appears to be shaped like a barrel in a fur coat. They are scowling fiercely with their moustache and bewhiskered ears apparently flowing back into the cold wind. There's a definite vibe that this villainous cat twirls their moustache as they evict orphans into the aforementioned blizzard and think Scrooge was an easy-going lightweight. They are magnificent.

My latest is the story of how my community has rallied to protect and defend our neighbors in recent days, as ICE has targeted the Rogers Park neighborhood in Chicago. "This is not a story about a moment of victory, but a moment of being reminded of our power."
They Came for Our Neighbors. We Showed Up.
Before long, there were dozens, and then hundreds of people in the streets, watching and responding.

Heavy military reinforcements have also been deployed around the Ofer military base, heightening tensions on the ground.

Families remain defiant, with hundreds more waiting in central Ramallah, where buses carrying released prisoners are expected to arrive.

Among those waiting outside the prison is the family of Anan Shalabi, a prisoner from Nablus who has spent 25 years in Israeli detention and is serving a life sentence. His sister shared the family’s mixed emotions ahead of his expected release.

“Our feelings are mixed - happiness at his freedom, but deep sadness that our mother passed away before she could see her beloved son,” she told Middle East Eye reporter Mohammed Nazzal.

“She waited for him every day and always said she would see him before she died, but she passed away a year and a half ago after falling ill.”

Despite their grief, the family is preparing to welcome Anan home with a low-key celebration.

Over the weekend, Israeli forces raided the homes of several prisoners’ families across the occupied West Bank, warning them against holding any form of celebrations.

“We thank God above all,” Anan’s sister said. “We will hold a modest celebration, marry him off, and pray he finally gets to see his children. “Workers continued to see elevated health-related absences linked to COVID-19…

[which] has likely raised the value to workers of paid-leave policies & existing social safety net programs.

Measures to reduce COVID-19 transmission in the workplace may also mitigate these new exposure risks”

So now the Administration are saying that the mass firing of CDC scientists, including many responsible for preventing outbreaks, was an “error” and many will be brought back.

Whether by intention or incompetence, dismantling public health will kill people.

Three weeks is such a long time, especially for a kid. Vaccines help keep children healthy and in school. “Unvaccinated children who were exposed to the virus will be “excluded” from school for three weeks, the length of time it could take for a measles exposure to cause symptoms, Bell said.”
Hundreds of U.S. students quarantined amid measles outbreaks
At least 270 unvaccinated kids are staying home from school as measles continues to spread nationwide. "Expect more," one expert said.

Have a piece today in TEEN VOGUE from my new book POLICE AGAINST THE MOVEMENT detailing how the NYPD, LAPD, cops in Chicago and Memphis surveilled the civil rights movement—and then destroyed millions of surveillance files in the ‘70s, including ones that may have shed like on MLK’s assassination.
