All day yesterday, as I braced for disappointment, I repeated this quote to myself.

To all of you hopeful fighters, good morning. You won a round.

If you are not at risk it is your civic duty to tell these guys they are embarrassing worms if you see them patrolling a supermarket to arrest people that the government is intentionally starving

We are starting to split into two people cooking 40 meals each! The fridge, oven and counter space required is much more manageable in a home kitchen. 80 lbs of chicken was a little terrifying with one oven, but I've got friendly neighbors who jumped into oven duty.

If you have an elderly neighbor; a single mom ; a family with lots of kids in your neighborhood then check in with them. Food shows love. If you have extra fruit , send some over to them . Maybe make a little too much chicken or spaghetti….. sharing is caring .
This template is specific to a mutual aid group where not everyone drives. Doc helps orient new cooks & new cooks give respite & energy to long haulers.
Recipes, shopping tips, roles & more!

If you have recipes we should add that work at scale, please let me know.

Lots of lovely folks want to cook for neighbors, fill community fridges during SNAP shutdown but are intimidated. A mutual aid group in Flatbush, Brooklyn has been feeding 80+ people every single week for a year and a half or so now. Nobody is born knowing how to cook for 80, so here's our guide!

The Regime is now threatening Social Security and Medicare if the government shutdown doesn’t end.

Reminder that Republicans have the power to end the shutdown at ANY TIME.

They simply do not care to do so.

There's so much being recalled and there's no newsletter coming out due to the shutdown.

Check this and see if you have any of these in your kitchen. If so, throw them out or see if you can get a refund if you can.

The Walton family (who own Walmart) are worth over $400 billion, yet many of their employees are on SNAP.

Bezos is worth over $400 billion, many Amazon employees require SNAP.

The people who need help are not the problem.

It’s corporate greed. It’s an unwillingness to pay a living wage.

yep and points 3 and 4 are explicitly about throwing a whole bunch of my friends, colleagues, neighbors, and loved ones under the bus, so fuck this.
i'm fine with a deeper focus on economic issues over social issues but man does plank 2 give the game away

Food bank director: “for every meal that a food bank provides, the SNAP program provides nine. There’s no way we can meet that gap.”

Great framing.
Whenever people complain about the number of folks relying on food stamps, it is worth reminding them that SNAP is, by too large of a degree, a subsidy for corporations that refuse to pay a living wage and their political allies who reject public policy prescriptions to reduce income inequality.
UC alumni like me: here’s the regent email address.

Yeah this is completely deranged. Among other things:

- a billion dollar payment
- Much more aggressive anti-diversity rules than required by law, including arguably forbidding stuff the Supreme Court explicitly said was permissible in SFFA
(Cont)
The UC Regents finally released the “settlement agreement” the Trump administration proposed in August. It’s a doozy.

Now is the time to let the UC Regents know you do not want them to sign this bad deal.

It’s so good. Our last two stoves have had a central long burner and I love it so much. I’ve had decent luck with these but still mostly leave to professionals. And I use bacon grease instead of lard because I always have it and doesn’t usually need sugar. www.seriouseats.com/flour-tortil...
The Best Flour Tortillas Are Homemade
Flour tortillas are central to the cuisine of Northern Mexico. Rich with lard and whole milk, these flour tortillas are airy, tender, and subtly sweet.

I have both too but I’ve used the press like twice. Also, I realize, comals are cheap. My long two burner one was like 20$ and the article prob gets referral $$$
And not a tortilla press: the comal is so much more indispensable in Mexican kitchens. This article is weird.

good morning, I can't stop thinking about how 34,000 of my neighbors are going to lose access to SNAP in a week.

If you donated to Platner via ActBlue, you can get a refund!

Contact them NOW and ask for your money back!
I donated to his campaign. I was pissed off when it was revealed he worked as a merc, and debating what to do when the tattoo & queerphobic posts came out.

I contacted ActBlue, asked for it to be returned, got an acknowledgement of the return a few hours later; 2 days later it was in my account.
