My kids go to a public school that has PreK-8th grade. If grades were split into 2-3 separate schools, they'd need to cover a larger geographic area. (1/2)
This is obviously a, ah, provocative take on the subject, but it indeed an enormous societal problem that children have stopped walking or biking to school. There are plenty of individually rational reasons parents might drive their kids to school, but, in a wider context, no good reasons.

The US Administration has banned Americans from *adopting babies* from much of the African continent.

On that last post: I genuinely cannot think of any good-faith reason to bar international adoptions from those 39 countries. Under this new ban, consulates will refuse adoption visas for any baby from Cuba, Haiti, Venezuela, Nigeria, or any of the 39 other countries.

And for anyone who hasn't been on Rte 1 in MA, it's already baseline one of the most dangerous roads around here even if you're going the speed limit.
I love when drivers brag about avoiding accountability for their dangerous driving. Maybe they should have learned their lesson from the *two* prior warnings and not driven 90 on Route 1.

Great point about how contextual "financial literacy" is.
There are different things that you need to know if your income level is ~$10K a year, ~$100K a year, ~$1M a year, ~$10M a year, ~$100M a year, and $1B a year.
Financial literacy for someone that makes ~$10K a year, is: "How to apply for SNAP," and "What time do the buses stop running?"

You sometimes see analysis of automated traffic enforcement being disproportionally deployed to low-income areas, so lower-income people have to pay more fines, which I think is important to understand, but if that's happening then lower-income people are also receiving the benefits of safer streets
There was a Pro Publica article about the inequity of traffic camera tickets in Chicago a few years back. Not a single person who had been hit by a car or lost a loved one who’d been hit was interviewed. No mention of which pedestrians are most likely to be killed in Chicago.
