Our media is not for readers/the audience anymore. Bezos doesn’t care about more subscribers to the Post - he wants it to please the administration giving him billions in contracts & subsidies. Same for Ellison hiring Weiss at CBS - no intention of growing the audience.

I can’t claim to be neutral. But I am grateful I wasn’t hired at 19 before graduating college and then plummeted into journalism stardom. I was forced to learn my lessons in a small town newspaper where the audience was small but cared deeply when I made my mistakes — and forced me to confront them

Deporting people doesn’t prevent gun violence. Strong gun laws, violence intervention programs, and listening to data — that’s what prevents gun violence.

Meanwhile, the Trump administration is diverting money from violence prevention and using it to terrorize immigrants. That’s not public safety.

Honestly, it is pretty striking to me that US clean power lobby groups have not only welcomed this, but actively specified in their responses that they WELCOME more fossil fuel growth - eg, Jason Grumet from the American Clean Power Association

When a reporter noted that some initiative groups argue that they’re using ballot questions as a law-making avenue because the Legislature hasn’t acted, Mariano mentioned there had already been a statewide vote on rent control, as well as a 2020 vote by House lawmakers who rejected the policy. (On the statewide vote, he apparently meant the one in 1994, which banned rent control. Another reporter noted she was not yet born when that vote occurred.)

The latest evaluation of bike lane projects in Boston continues to show that if you build bike infrastructure, people will use it.

Bicycle counts significantly increased on every corridor where we completed Better Bike Lanes projects in 2024. The number of people biking, and the percentage of all traffic they make up, both saw substantial increases. ▸ We counted over 3,000 more daily bike trips, a 55% increase across all projects. In our prior report on Better Bike Lane projects completed in 2023, we recorded a 44% increase in volume. The latest projects appear to have tapped into even more growth potential by focusing on mostly arterial streets and closing key new network connection gaps. ▸ Bicycles as a share of of all traffic increased to 7% of daily traffic across all projects, nearly doubling from 4% in the baseline condition. Some projects saw bicycle mode share as high as 19% ▸ Boylston Street (Back Bay) topped the list with a near doubling (+83%) of daily bike trips, leading four other corridors that measured growth of nearly 50% or more.
