I am covering EVERY First Person Shooter EVER made in Japan.

From 1985 to 2025, that's over 40 years and 70 games of gaming history.

This was without a doubt the most ambitious video I've ever made.

We just updated the Bubsy 4D Demo! Check out the patch notes below.
- Bubsy 3D's face is now capable of blinking. We have the technology.
- Bubsy 3D's texture no longers becomes nightmare fuel on low quality settings.
- Bubsy isn't as obsessed about how Woolie's smell anymore.
- Dropdown's in the settings don't have an existential crisis anymore.
- Removed language options until Bubsy learns how to speak anything other than English.
- Brought back framerate settings so you can ogle at Bubsy 120 times per second.
- The "Cutscene Skip" toggle no longer prevents you from entering the VR menu. No more excuses, get in the robot Bubsy!
- Added a climbable grid on both sides of the building at the end of "Heartfelt Village" so you don't regret your life choices more than usual.
- We had a talk with the camera man and he promised the camera should now glitch less when hopping around as a hairball and with certain slanted geometry. If it still does, blame him and not us.
- The camera man also told us he'll obey the laws of physics and clip into objects like the felt houses less, which is nice.
- If you're Bubsy look away: Added a new unique death when getting flattened by spiky cars.
- Told the total timer to take up less space and long leaderboard names to abide to its confines. Cheeky things.

Ding-ding! Mail call! A POPFUL MAIL call!

Released originally for the PC-8801 Japanese PC in 1991, Popful Mail is an adorable anime-themed action-adventure from Nihon Falcom staring Mail, a fiery-tempered elven bounty hunter.

The snaps below are from the Sega-CD Working Designs localization.

1/2
The loading screen features Mail and another character, a mage in a red hat and cloak, Tatt. Another character, a rotund monster, Gaw, gnaws on the corner of a wooden sign where Popful Mail Adventure and 1994 have been inscribed. One of the main gameplay screens depicting a forest and one of the character conversion windows with Popful wondering what another character is doing up on a treetop platform. A status bar with Mail, Arms, Key, and Gold is below. One of the shop screens with an adorable pink Gaw-like monster wearing a frilly white dress and saying "Hello! What can I do for you today, miss?" is on the screen with BUY SELL HEAL and EXIT. Another character dialogue moment with an angry looking mail facing off against an opponent.

I revamped the battle system, which allowed me to develop attack patterns instead of the old "strike once when the hidden ATB bar is filled".

Fast weapons now usually perform 2 weak attacks, while heavy weapons hit once for massive damage.

Still tweaking the overall flow.

A very early glimpse in Hobby Consolas magazine of Sega Saturn classic Panzer Dragoon in development, presumably at the stage where it was going to be a 32X game. The graphics definitely have that feel.

Very cool stuff.
A page from Hobby Consolas with three screenies of roughly textured graphics and a green dragon in flight and some details and drawing parallels to the Virtua graphics (presumably Racing and Fighter)

It's worth reading this and some of the quotes people have made, to make an informed decision about supporting the SNES RPGs book.
Let's hope the book doesn't have a section on Brazil or "third world countries"

the only comic discourse I care about
A comic titled "How to Draw Comics," in which a serene looking being is stood before a table, on which is a single sheet of paper and a pencil. The being is staring at us.

They then peek down at the sheet of paper, and the POV switches to that of the being, so we can see what is on the page. A single word is written there:

"Don't"

The POV switches back, but is closer on the being's strangely serene face as they continues staring at the page.

They then stare directly at us, the serene face implying the opposite.
