The antagonist in the WIP was so abusive that the characters fairly often refer to him as "_fucking_ Clay!"
Every other occasion when they say "fuck", they're enjoying the verb 😊
It's a book for adults. It's explicit. If people dislike the word, it's not a fit for them anyway, & I'm fine with that

Re-reading Aubrey-Maturin I've reached the point (again) where Maturin brings bees on board with him, and there's a gibbon loose in the rigging. Just the thing I need to read when I'm worrying about word count, because everyone knows it would be a travesty if stuff like that wasn't in the book 🤣

I feel like I'm going to put off regular querying till sometime in the new year, when I (hopefully) start coming out of SAD, rather than heading into it. Still have dozens of open queries anyway

My overall point here is that if you are attempting to sell books to traditional publishers right now, you may be feeling pretty down. Submission periods are stretching longer than I've ever seen. Editors are ghosting. Agents have lists of genres they can't sell. Authors are seeing lower advances.

One of the nice things about dipping back into Aubrey-Maturin is the other characters who also progress through the series, like Pullings and Babbington. The feeling of continuity is very enjoyable across all the books

My happiest days are when I don't have distractions to deal with, & I can just write. And the characters are lively & directing their own scenes, so I just have to write down what they're doing as fast & as well I can. And then I get to spend time with my partner later as well. Just the best days! 🥰
