I wrote this for the BFS while it's World Autism Day. Take a look if you like :)
This World Autism Awareness Day, BFS Secretary @davidgreenwriter.bsky.social shares his experience of being an autistic writer in the publishing world, and calls for more support for neurodivergent people in the industry.

I was saddened to learn of the passing away of Benjamin Zephaniah. I was fortunate enough to hear him speak on a panel and also perform years ago at the Auckland Literary festival

This is one of the most honorable way to approach making art, to believe in your ability to put something into the world that helps *somewhere, sometime* & that hypothetical audience is worth caring about
Listening to an album for the first time that released nine years ago and every time I do this with music, I remember it works the same way with books. What you write today may take some time to be found by those who will love it but you can’t lose hope of that discovery occurring.

Flew in to Nashville at night, Ubered right to hotel/convention center. Generous @TASLTN president Katelyn J. not only drove @livluvlibrary and me to the airport, but also drove us through downtown Nashville. Then took us to the Nashville Public Library.

Great story.
Cute sticks.
Bats!
Hands up who’s still awake in Aotearoa? 👋 Here’s a fun little story to reward your insomnia.

It’s a story about this little stick in the photo.

It involves creatures that glow in the dark and bats and it just happened tonight. I guess we’ll just extend Halloween season for tonight. 🍄 💡 🦇 🧵

I never thought I'd be happy about being late to the party, but hearing about Rebecca Yarros's misuse of Scots Gaelic makes me very thankful that I have not yet read Fourth Wing. Now I don't have to give up on a series I'd invested time in. #StopMisappropriatingCelticCulture #NotReadingFourthWing

I got fired from my job as a fantasy writer because my boss said I was away in a world of my own.
I got fired from my job as a conspiracy theorist. And I suppose you expect me to believe that was just some random coincidence, do you?

At this crucial moment in SAG-AFTRA negotiations, here’s some WGA history that SAG members should know.

In our 2007-08 strike, our leadership wanted to hold out a little bit longer to get the best deal. But 30 wealthy WGA members thought they knew better.🧵

Ah, yes, let us not desecrate the memorial to the War to End All War by protesting for the End of a War.

Also, it’s been 105 years, all of the people who fought it are dead, the “Ending all Wars” didn’t even make it a decade, so yeah, honoring the war dead is best done by not making more war dead.

ISO3103 is the International Standard covering the serving of tea. It's there to ensure consistency in taste testing.

Key points:

- Pot should be porcelain or earthenware
- Milk should be added AFTER hot water

Ireland were the only country to object, noting there is no provision for pot-warming.

As a fellow editor, it's my duty to agree. There are very few hard and fast rules in book writing, but this is one of them.

Adding a dragon is always a good idea.
Adding more dragons is an even better idea.

Authors: DO NOT TALK DOWN ABOUT YOUR BOOKS

You worked hard on those books. You finished them and got them published. Saved the false modesty for when you sweep the awards ceremony, not for your book launch. Do not Aww Shucks your book!

Maybe it's time to retire the term "diverse books".

It seems to be replacing the warm, moist spot left by "world literature".
Scholastic Book Fairs is ending their segregated book program. We made ourselves heard.

It also brings up, imho, the uneasy discomfort that POC artists must reckon with while engaging with these larger systems of white hegemony--namely how they essentially ask them/expect them to package their identity/culture into a 'saleable' and 'consumable' product, reduced to a sort of 'brand'.
This Scholastic controversy just made me realize that using "diverse" just to mean non-white or non-straight is the way it goes now, another special category to be put into. Diversity has to include everything or else it isn't diverse. Otherwise, it's just a new way to say black or queer or whatever

Yes, I am extra. Yes, I filled a ziploc bag with autumn leafies and flew it from North Carolina for my dog to play with on our walk tomorrow because nothing fills her little heart with more joy than playing with a bunch of dead leafs on the ground and Florida doesn’t get autumn weather 🐕🍁
