Being a fantasy author is asking: wait, how does my magic system work again?
Being a fantasy writer is typing "they extended an olive branch" and then going "shit, do they even have olives in this world?"

Walmart and McDonald’s are among the top employers of workers who rely on food stamps.

McDonald's CEO raked in $18.2M last year — over 1,000x the company's median employee pay.

Walmart's CEO pocketed $27.4M — 930x the company's median employee pay.

See the problem?

i'm laughing so hard at all these media outlets being like "bridgerton star" "wicked star" and then the ffxiv fandom lovingly shows out in full like "G'RAHA TIA SEXIEST MAN" "CATBOY OF THE YEAR" i love y'all

Please remember, Y’all:
The Procreate Reddit is NOT managed by the company. Direct your ire at the stupid reddit mods, not Savage Interactive.

(Most assuredly make the devs painfully aware though)
In today’s Reddit news: the mods of the Procreate subreddit took down someone’s artwork of Master Chief in front of the trans pride flag, saying that it was too politically charged for the current climate. Reposts, comments criticizing the mods, or general pro trans art are also getting deleted

Elaine Welteroth, former editor-in-chief of Teen Vogue and youngest editor of Condé Nast ever, and the 2nd African American to hold this position, changed Teen Vogue to be more politically conscious.

Welteroth was just 29 when Anna Wintour made her editor-in-chief. Months later, the magazine shut down. What did she do next?

thank you for all the support; the statement from our union is now live here with some more reporting.

now that this is public I can confirm that the majority of today’s layoffs were women of color. there are no longer any Black women working at Teen Vogue.

No one gets to look like they did in their 20s all their life, but one of the things I am finding gratifying (and also, a bit of a relief) is that as I age I'm finding people my age continue to be beautiful. It makes leaving youth behind easier, although I still miss the knees of my 20s.
He doesn't look like that any more - but he did look like that, and eternity held its breath for a moment, and how many human beings does that happen to? The point of beauty that verges on the absurd is its evanescence. Gather ye rosebuds while ye may ...
Well this explains it. Vogue is absorbing Teen Vogue & that "in which Teen Vogue will keep its unique editorial identity and mission" is already nonsense with these layoffs.

I was laid off from Teen Vogue today along with multiple other staffers, and today is my last day.

certainly more to come from me when the dust has settled more, but to my knowledge, after today, there will be no politics staffers at Teen Vogue.

I really love this Vincent Van Gogh quote:

"To do good work one must eat well, be well housed, have one's fling from time to time, smoke one's pipe, and drink one's coffee in peace."

No romanticizing the starving artist. Van Gogh said UBI all the way.

Not sure I’m going to finish it (Vladimir Serov, Waiting for the Signal)

Probably not a brilliant idea to reference a picture that’s so strongly reliant upon it being set at night for this but. Oh well! I wanted to play with this!

tbh one of the biggest takeaways I have from being lucky enough to have been able to travel to a bunch of other countries is “wow, holy shit, look at all these publicly funded things other countries have.

our incredibly moneyed government really fucking hates us, huh?”

Your regular reminder that the number of trans kids using puberty blockers to delay puberty is tiny, and the vast majority of prescriptions for the medication in children and adolescents are used to delay precocious puberty in cisgender kids.
Because it’s cis kids.
The NHS will quite casually give cis kids whatever treatment they need, even PBs👇

CS Lewis: No one who bothers about originality will ever be original: whereas if you simply try to tell the truth (without caring twopence how often it has been told before) you will, nine times out of ten, become original without ever having noticed it.

And this is for the basic entry level positions, production teams & call center. People who need the jobs, need the money, some of them barely surviving & needing to work. But getting a job w/out current tech is darn near impossible.
The requirements are such these days that if you can't use an authenticator on your phone w/ ability to read QR codes & connect w/ our systems, you can't work for my company. New hires have been pushed back a class while resolving their phone issues. If they can.

I doubt we're the only company.
Never take seriously those who ridicule low income people for having a smartphone or laptop.

“If they’re so poor how did they buy an iPhone???”

Because they’re trying to escape poverty, not the 1700s, genius. If you think basic tech access is luxury, survive a month without it.

Always a little fascinating when people discuss writing in media and one camp is discussing the writing as events that happened, while the other camp is discussing the writing as choices that were made by the creators.

I feel like a lot of disagreements comes from mismatch of those camps.

This is totally true, and I'd like to add: there's also character identity to consider.
FFXIV is a game in which one character can play every job. That's part of the WoL's lore. So it makes sense that you could blend different styles from different jobs in one outfit.
the thing about the “but class identity!!” complaint re: the upcoming glamour expansion is that generally, in ffxiv aesthetics, there is class identity and there is job identity and the two are frequently incompatible as it is.
Also how many of those making the "MY IMMERSION" gripes are modding their gear & OCs anyway? Wearing those funny combos or the class agnostic gear already available?

I look forward to creative new glam options for many jobs & losing some duplicate items across roles clogging my dresser space.
