Kind of an inopportune time to ask about this, but why in the WORLD is SEPTA replacing their bus stop route emblems with numbers that are half the size and you can see from less than half the distance? They even made them skinny for extra low visibility! Did Lex Powers know about this? wtf 😭

This statement got me. How much of speeding / cut through traffic on residential streets is a result of Google Maps, Waze etc? Rather than place the burden on cities to install thousands of speed humps, diverters, bump outs etc - could ordinances require through traffic to be mapped to arterials?

This is genuinely the biggest update to Reimagining Regional Rail that we've seen in a few years:
-Station rehabs
-Freight separations
-Rebuilding RR through the airport
-Double tracking up Wawa, Doylestown and Warminster
-New yards
-Extensions to WC, Upper Bucks, and Atglen
Here is 'unfunded.' If you read closely, there are a ton of regional rail projects in here that are obviously Reimagining Regional Rail projects that have been communicated to the DVRPC even though SEPTA's plan isn't out

gotta say i think FDOT bears a lot of the blame here. this is a railroad from 1885 which always hosted fast trains, even when it was freight-only. what the hell were your traffic engineers thinking

You just drop it into a container so you don’t need to tie it and bag it correctly at all. The container contains it. That’s why they call it a container.

With Wanamaker, Philly has already reached the absurd stage of residential conversion with insanely skinny units granting 1 (one) window each. Would never want to live here!

The 49 does fill a crucial cross-river link unlike many other SEPTA routes. But its seemingly impressive post-pandemic recovery is just as much a function of how anemic the ridership was for its first year before 2020. Even now it still only gets around 20 pax/rev hour!

Your periodic reminder that public and media perceptions of crime have almost nothing to do with the actual incidence of crime or the likelihood of being a crime victim, but rather are almost entirely driven by the existence of visible homeless people.

Very sad coda to the circa 2010 vicious DC Streetcar blog debates: the H St. streetcar will be shut down and, supposedly, replaced with trolleybuses www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/202...
Mayor says D.C. Streetcar is going away, ‘next generation streetcar’ is coming
The streetcar that took more than a decade and $200 million to launch will shut down in two more years.

Back to the USA, we are the most road built out country on earth. Do we really need more? Shouldn’t we see if people actually value these roads via even nominal user fees?

Indeed, focusing on how HOLC "redlining" from the 1930s rather than racial segregation today overlays present-day racial housing inequities assuredly underestimates those inequities.
