Philadelphia brings ramps up to Ada standards by completely blocking off sidewalk corners and forcing all pedestrians into the street. They just did this with chestnut street in center city, it is unbelievable

I asked a friend who is involved with the local RCO but this was approved before his time. Based on the community’s overwhelming preference for brick and single family though I’m gonna guess this was by right and entirely up to the developer. It also sat exposed for a long time while under cons…

And I just can’t imagine that stuff like this is gonna perform any better in the long term

While this isn’t the case for your brother we have our own water infiltration crisis. I think it primarily impacts sfhs, but it’s everywhere on 2000s construction. My 1890s (ish?) rowhouse renovated in the late 2000s is certainly suffering from it. stuccosafe.com/stucco-remed...

Nevermind it’s in a location that sees the most intense snowfall in Pennsylvania. Even CSX daylights a tunnel on the keystone sub in that area.

They just have to bypass Allegheny Mountain tunnel, no matter how many bats it kills. Don’t even get me started on the Mon-Fayette expressway, the ghosts of mid 20th century political desires to connect the mon valley to a highway (it already is) will not die.

He’s right about that though, stairs are dangerous. Especially at his age.

Correct! CSX main is on the other side of the river though. This is an industrial spur serviced by Allegheny Valley Railroad, though it may technically be owned by CSX and leased to them still. A little further to the right was the B&O spur to downtown which hosted the PATrain until 1990.

Is this something city council can do or does it require state approval?

I wonder how much Ameristar rail paid for this editorial.

29 extension to pier 70, in fact anything that goes to pier 70. Really reaching but hey it’s longer than it was before I guess, don’t ask about the wires.

Who’s the line way up top?

And poorer people have moved into inner ring suburbs. This is pretty well documented by more scholarly types and goes to show the urban/suburban dichotomy is a lot more complex than most people understand it to be.
