Us even having a debate about straight up murdering people in the ocean really shows how things like the Holocaust happen when you dehumanize people for propaganda.

David Ellison is directly responsible for my being out of work currently and David Zaslav is indirectly responsible for my being out of work in 2020, so whatever, man, congrats to Netflix, we will all go together when we go. ✌🏻

I don’t know if or when you last read the 1995 Newbery Award Winner ‘Walk Two Moons’ by Sharon Creech, but holy shit. It is ‘The Hours’ for middle schoolers. My sense of my own motherhood has been re-contextualized in real time. It is so good.

I think this is an internet problem, not just Bluesky, but yes.
If I had to diagnose the cause of the "Bluesky malaise" as @kleinman.bsky.social calls it, I would describe it as a lot of people without the skills or resources or interest in journalism or activism mistakenly believing that being performatively miserable all the time will net the same results.

Oh so she’s like ~stupid~ stupid.
A scene from American Canto. Olivia Nuzzi tries to visit the WWE Hall of Fame, only to discover that it is not a physical building.

Showed this to my sister who’s in entertainment marketing. She’ll never forgive me.
"oh, don't forget to highlight, in bright red, the two-letter word in the tagline! the two letter word that's kind of the whole point of this clever ad campaign! the two letter word that links this show to the horror movie of the same name!"

"no problem boss. i'm on it"

I still have a roof over my head and food to eat because I have a husband and access to credit cards, not because of writing.
almost every novelist you read who's not from the airport fiction or bestseller sections is working a full on day job, including multi-award winners and absolute legends, or they have a spouse or trust that supports them. virtually across the board. just normalize in your mind that's how it works.
I know we know this, but authors need to get better at talking about how they actually make their money. Stop pretending it's from the books.

The Mamdani/Trump meeting only strengthened this delusion.
A weird little delusion I have is that if I had a chance to talk to Trump, I’d have Stephen Miller out on his ass in 20 minutes.

I laughed out loud at Matthew MacFadyen’s delivery of “I stubbed my toe on the gallows,” in Death by Lightning. I could watch that bit of acting on repeat forever. What a perfect delivery. So much was in it. What a gem of a show. All my favorite kinds of things were in that show.

How do I step into Death by Lightning and slap the shit out of the doctor handling Garfield’s treatment? It’s okay, Zeljko Ivanek has it coming for like five other characters he’s played.

Lol. Imagine trying to scam MacArthur Genius Grant recipient and two time Pulitzer Prize winner Colson Whitehead by telling him he’s “very promising.” I’d die of shame. I wouldn’t be able to face any of my scam colleagues in the scam break room.
There’s another wave of author impersonators offering consultations/mentoring for a price. (I got one from “Claire Keegan” telling me I’m very promising!) I’m sure you are great, but I didn’t email to tell you how swell you are. Here’s info on book scams: www.penguinrandomhouse.com/prh-fraud/

I've noticed the opposing team's fans only cheer when the opponents score on us. To win those fans over, I recommend we score on ourselves repeatedly; that will surely make them so happy they'll start supporting us. And I'm sure all our fans will keep cheering for us—who else is there to cheer for?

Woodworking is such a beautiful book. I felt an actual sense of grief after I finished because I couldn’t continue living in the characters’ heads, they were that compelling and I came to love them all that much. I highly recommend it. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
