Today on THINGS THAT WON'T GET YOU FIRED IF YOU'RE A COP:

“A [New Bedford] police officer is facing a 15-day suspension for excessive force after punching and pepper spraying a juvenile suspect, issuing false statements about the incident, and violating the department’s body-worn camera policy.”
New Bedford officer may face unpaid suspension in excessive force case - The New Bedford Light
The department has sustained six policy violations against William Mouyos, including use of excessive force and not activating his body camera in an incident involving a juvenile on a scooter.

When the Attorney General's Office covered up the evidence about this alleged criminal misconduct that could impact hundreds of thousands of drug cases, @massgovernor.bsky.social Maura Healey was the attorney general.

The Massachusetts legislature solves this problem by not passing any laws.
It is absolutely stunning to me how little most legislators actually know about the laws that they're passing. The process for hearing legislation, getting educated about an issue, and allowing robust public feedback is much too fast for the amount they want to get done each term.

The fact the Summer St bike lane is considered a national best is so sad. Like, it's a lot better than what was there before, but it's only one direction on a two-way street, and it's not protected for large stretches with just a tiny one inch curb perfectly designed for a delivery truck to park on.

Body cameras will solve it! It's almost as if the House GOP was inspired by the Cambridge City Council.

Rep. Mark Amodei, the House Republican negotiating the DHS funding bill, said the agency needs more law enforcement equipment under President Donald Trump.

They kinda do.

In Cambridge, you can have a mental breakdown, the police will show up, shoot you based on a made-up policy that is not CPD policy ("20 foot rule"), the Commissioner will explain that no policies were violated, and City Councilors will make speeches about how wonderful the police is.
The cops don't get to summarily execute you. Not even if you're guilty. Not even if they saw you commit a crime. Certainly not for, to borrow a phrase, speaking, publishing, or peaceably assembling.

This reflexive victim blaming is disgusting misdirection, obfuscation, and slander.

Would love some support from @aclum.bsky.social to raise awareness about these issues & the murder of a presumed innocent man held on cash bail by Boston's jail guards on 12/7.

Renee Good's and Shacoby Kenny's killings are not a Venn Diagram. They are one circle.

As Federal Prisons Run Low on Food and Toilet Paper, Corrections Officers Leave in Droves for ICE
Many of the problems the agency is facing now are not new, but staff and prisoners fear an exodus of officers could make life behind bars even worse.

Jail guards killed Shacoby Kenny here in Boston last month. Speakers at the rally uplifted his death. It is a continuum.

Law enforcement abuses are felt every day most directly & urgently by incarcerated people.

ICE new hires are jail + prison guards.

ICE went to South Bay *last week*

We the people are taking to the streets to say: ICE out of our communities NOW.

Reckless federal agents on our streets don’t make anyone safer.

The Massachusetts Senate put out a press release when they set the primary date for 2026. The subtitle: "Bill Sets Optimal Date for Voter Participation".

The optimal date? September 1st.

What an amazing way to say Fuck You to renters.

Rep. Katherine Clark is #2 in the House leadership, and represents half of Cambridge, MA.

She has two primary challengers.
"The Democrats’ plan: TBD. There has been a lot of rhetoric, but ... the caucus is largely shying away from using its leverage in the appropriations process and threatening another government shutdown."

Note that "ICE-related shooting" is just a rehash of the Orwellian language cities and police departments use when a police officer kills someone.

Thus when Cambridge, MA police officer shot and killed Sayed Faisal, they called it an "officer-involved shooting": www.cambridgema.gov/news/2023/01...
It is not an "Ice-related shooting". ICE agents shot and murdered a 37-year-old unarmed woman trying to leave the scene of federal agents with guns and aggression. That's murder.

Evan's almost-win scared the legislature enough to implement some transparency, like public committee votes.

The result: a bill rolling back MA climate action stalled out, despite the support of the House Speaker, because publicly voting for it was embarrassing.

A win would be even more impactful!
I’m excited to announce today that I am running for State Representative for the 25th Middlesex District.

We need to have a state government that works for the many, not just the well connected few.

We spent a huge amount of money on bodycams so that next time the police gets away with murder we will have videos of it (that won't get released). Instead of actually trying to prevent the police from killing people, because that would be an insult to our amazing police department.
Three years after the police shooting of 20-year-old Sayed Faisal spurred the use of body cameras for police officers in Cambridge, questions about the use of the devices and broader issues with police policy still remain in the city. https://bit.ly/4jv1Kia
