As an offshoot of this thread, let’s talk about what happens if federal, state, or local officials text, email, call, or show up at your door wanting to talk to you about what you said about the President.

I have a theme, a thesis, a throughline, a leitmotif, which is SHUT YOUR FUCKING MOUTH.

This is a First Amendment question combined with a practical question. The answer is as follows.

First, the First Amendment protects advocating the moral and practical necessity of breaking the law in the abstract.

One of the weirder things about Me Too is that every accusation made against it by its detractors is in fact a description of those opponents’ own behavior. Here: other people must suffer extreme indignity for the sake of men’s ability to avoid discomfort and feel good.

Okay folks, I'm up early here in the Azores so I can fly to Terceira Island and get a photo that re-creates this image from "Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis"

I don't know why I have to do this, but I just have to
OMG THANK YOU FOR THIS

I *love* that game and random stuff reminds me of it sometimes.

I think I still have it somewhere (box o games in the garage) but no computer that will play it. 😭
Congratulations! (internet rando here.) Beautiful couple, wedding, bouquet, cake, pictures. 😍

Since the last election, a secret network of 24 McDonald’s owners has spent over $100,000 to back Jacob Frey and his allies.

5 of them are out-of-state and only 2 of them live in Minneapolis!

All with deep pockets, willing to spend big to tip the scales of this election.

An undergrad who didn’t even go to journalism school asks the could-not-be-more-pertinent question that absolutely terrifies the “paper of record’s” “New York” bureau
As an Italian American, I am adamantly not affiliated with these clowns
"During her time as Cuomo’s top aide, DeRosa allegedly played a central role in retaliating against sexual harassment claims by employees and creating a “toxic workplace environment,” according to the New York Times. ...

DeRosa serves on the advisory board of Cornell’s Department of Communication."
This story about Melissa DeRosa allegedly threatening Cornell's funding after an undergrad dared to ask her about Cuomo's sexual harassment allegations is not gonna do anything for this crew's reputation as frothing bullies.

all cereal should be required to have lore
Vanilly Crunch (1971-1975): A Cap'n Crunch variant, featuring frosted vanilla/cake batter-flavored puffs. The fictional lore was that a character named Seadog was baking a cake, and the batter spilled into a batch of cereal, which the Cap'n loved, and which was then transported around by Wilma Whale

I don't see a lot of people talking about this, so I want to highlight something GOOD

Billie Eilish stood in a room full of billionaires and said "you're billionaires... Why?"

She donated 11.5 MILLION DOLLARS to food equity and climate orgs, which Stephen Colbert announced to said billionaires.

JD Vance, the second most powerful person in the country, makes a flatly racist comment about immigrants and barely any mainstream news orgs are writing about it? Kudos to my employer, USA TODAY, for unflinchingly allowing me to share my views.

Vance seems to think segregation is 'acceptable' if neighbors don't speak English | Opinion
Vice President JD Vance has added a flatly segregationist twist to his broadly unlikable personality.

Please note what happened here. By challenging Trump to pause his terror raids for Halloween, Pritzker forced Kristi Noem to come out *for* continuing to traumatize kids. Polarizing these debates draws attention/forces MAGA depravity into the light.

I'm always amused by genAI users who are shocked to discover genAI does the thing it was designed to do, the thing the developers have been all over the news saying, the thing millions of resisters have also said.

The screenshots, of course, don't have alt text, but you don't need to waste your time reading them. Claude basically says the White House has not demolished the east wing and spits out several paragraphs of nonsense about it.

So close to getting the point. So fucking close.
I use Claude (an AI) to scan my posts for spelling and grammar errors. On the most recent post (about the East Wing, link below), I got a really amazing addendum.

I was interviewed a few years ago by a company that was developing “closed caption glasses” (a feature the Meta Ray-Ban Display glasses include). They weren’t super happy about what I had to say: yes, it would help me “hear”; no, I wouldn’t buy or use it (and all smart workplaces should ban them).

you’d think people would learn from history about “the importance of not fucking up one really big thing, because if you do so, all the other things you did that you’d like to be remembered for will crumble to ash and irrelevance,” but so it goes

X’er here, proudly caucusing with the millennials 🙌🏻
Kinda not sure what we're supposed to do about chatGPT being as normalized as it is. I feel like everyone that's either very young or very old is into it, millennials largely being the only normal ones lol
