I'm Kai! They/them. Library worker, writer in progress. Here be books and creatures and brainweirds and queerness.
Late night thoughts: thinking about the "unalive" linguistic debate and an article I read once (it was like, a paper newspaper in the 00's so there's no chance of tracking it down) about cursing and taboo language. And how OG swears are about things we Don't Talk About such as:

Want a Xmas romance? This is not that. RIDING NICK is a very silly and slightly sexy 99-cent short story in which a burned-out, 40-something, Bengali atheist gets her bells jingled by Santa Claus.

Boosting for those who have read the gay hockey books in question (iykyk) because I haven't and Ash really needs to know.
I'm reading the first of those gay hockey books and I don't hate it (I am mostly ambivalent at best) but can someone please tell me if all of them feature the whole "we gotta stay secret,no one is queer in professional hockey" thing because I don't know if I want 5 books of that

Since I've been organizing some whistles getting to folks who need them today, a reminder that if you have a 3D printer and want to be part of this effort, reach out to me. (If I missed you before, sorry, getting sick knocked me off my feet!)

And if you see anyone who needs whistles, tag me!

hoopla is amazing. it also isn’t cheap. but the best argument we librarians can make to the purse string holders for keeping it is that people actually use it, so please use it! 📚 📺
The positive outcome of this story is that in frantically googling around trying to figure out what happened and how I could at least see the end of the episode, I discovered that the show is available at my local library and actually can be streamed thence via Hoopla 🎉

Does anyone have access to "The Saint Between Manuscript and Print: Italy 1400-1600" (ed Alison Frazier) in their library? I'm trying to access a chapter in there about St Roch's hagiography and I'm running into a lot of dead ends. A PDF would help immensely. Chapter author is dead, so no go there.

I am so happy I got to be a part of this. I did the art for the first cover in this series what feels like a lifetime ago. I should get in touch with the publisher about doing a new remaster of the cover after all this time.
My debut trilogy is an epic fantasy inspired by the many African cultures I've researched. It's about a "game of thrones" where even the gods have a stake in the outcome.

It applies to normies, too. Teenage parents (especially mothers) stop at that age. Deep trauma in early 20s (like being deployed, being assaulted) arrests development. Getting famous, getting power? They’re types of trauma, even if most people think it’s a good trauma. It often isn’t.
