I do them for the balance factor (I'm 60-ish), and also because of the sunk cost of learning them. But I'm convinced that Pavel added them to the program as a jobs program for kettlebell coaches.

When you get older, you may want to balance the running with strength training. Cardio is probably the most important thing in old person longevity and well-being, but core strength, flexibility, and balance are all crucial in their way.

I did 1.5M in 13:30 a month or so ago (it's a standard trial for approximating VO2 max), though I probably cannot deadlift more than 150#. Of such trade-offs is life made.
