I get by with a little help…

A nice PDF glossary by Tim Rivera for Iberian swordplay in period from the 15th to 18th century centuries. I ran across this while researching Spanish fencing terminology for better communication with members of my #fencing club in Badajoz.

Yeah. And last time I paid attention, it seemed like most of the school curricula offering alternative outlets were being cut.

Seriously, Judges *do no do things like this*

They don't give their opinion to the media

They don't criticize how SCOTUS works

This is them breaking the emergency glass, folks

After spending 43 years in prison for a crime he didn't commit, evidence hidden by the prosecution reversed his conviction. Rather than finally enjoying freedom, ICE abducted him for deportation

Depraved.

The beaches in and around Setúbal were clean, with calm waters and no crowds. The water temperature was surprisingly warm in October, perfect for swimming.

The municipal market at Setúbal was rather good, though better seafood prices can be had at nearby shops. Breakfast of fried cuttlefish sandwiches was a good kickstart for the day.

Tasca da Avenida was a delightful surprise with one patron having her Cocker Spaniel dining on her lap. The fried cuttlefish and other food was all superb.

Grilled sea bass (robalo) at O Zeca on the beach in nearby São Lorenço also did not disappoint
Grilled sea bass (robalo) and accompaniments. I guess it's not just a mixed drink at the beaches around Setúbal!

Dining in Setúbal was superb. Xtoria is the only Michelin-starred restaurant I have found in Portugal so far that is not a disappointment.
The robalo (fish) cured in seaweed was amazing; I will definitely try that technique at home!

Funky dolphin sculptures in downtown Setúbal by the marina. Dolphin watching tours are a big thing there, which guests in Lisbon have enjoyed in the past.

More fortress perspectives in Setúbal.
The chapel is well suited for human sacrifices. An accidental "selfie" Seating on a wall near the café at the fortress in Setúbal. On the way out.

Different perspectives through the windows of sentry shelters at the Setúbal fortress.

Sentry shelters of the fortress in Setúbal.

The fortress, a few minutes' walk from where we stayed, has a good café and great views of the town and sea. I was a bit obsessed with the different views out the windows of the many sentry shelters.

My companheira knows I'm not crazy about beaches and hotels, so she found a charming hilltop farm above the fortress in Setúbal. Quiet and friendly animals, just like home.
One of the donkeys at the Setúbal farm. Since I left my old jenny Mathilda in Oregon, I have missed hanging out with these clever beasts. The farm was full of tileworks of many kinds installed by past generations. The lonely farm goat was a gentle old girl who followed my dog, trying to get her to play. My bitch Harmat loved exploring the neglected parts of the old farm, searching for her ball and other adventures.

I've finally found a Portuguese beach town entirely to my liking: Setúbal, about 45 minutes by public transportation from Sete Rios station in Lisbon. In a 4 day stay at an old farm, I enjoyed the marina quiet beaches, great restaurants and a great cosmopolitan vibe.
One of many tilework signs at the Setúbal farm where I enjoyed a four day break Four days of play and belly scratches have convinced Harmat that Setúbal is indeed a place of joy. The goat is 14 years old, but still spry and fond of playing with dogs. The amorous farm dog pursued my Harmat relentlessly, but got nowhere. Her motto: "Balls before boys!"
