If you have to get permission to teach in your area of expertise from people who are definitionally not qualified to adjudicate your expertise then you are no longer working at a university.

You’re working at a state propaganda factory.

Trump pardoned people who tried to overturn his 2020 election loss in state legislatures. One was Jenna Ellis, now a Christian radio host. She attacked @wordandway.bsky.social as a "bad actor" for reporting on her (publicwitness.wordandway.org/p/radio-liar). I don't put much stock in her assessment!

The progression in the criminal case against former Donald Trump attorney and Christian radio show host Jenna Ellis looks like that “how it started, how it’s going” meme.

And again, a pattern of putting out statements accusing people of serious Federal crimes and then releasing them hours or days or weeks later with no charges. And no retraction.
NEWS: Federal agents crashed with woman’s car, pointed guns at her, dragged her out by legs, tossed her in a minivan, held her and (eventually) let her go without charges. This as Chicagoans say the immigration blitz is out of control. (DHS blames her.)

She had a big impact on my life. It was great to see a woman governor of my home state as a kid. And many children of the Toyota advance team attended my school. So we suddenly got a multicultural experience that lasted many years. RIP MLC.

very cool that if you are working on behalf of right-wing culture warriors, you no longer need standing to have your claim adjudicated by the supreme court
It's not just that they're going to strike down a law against conversion therapy, it's that they're going to do it on behalf of made-up claims from a straw plaintiff who can't honestly show the law affected her at all
One thing about American's widespread distrust and disapproval of the Supreme Court is that mainstream news coverage mostly doesn't dwell on stuff like standing, so people don't even begin to grasp how rigged the Court truly is www.nytimes.com/live/2025/10...

this part.

the feds are *already* here. they’ve *been* here, tear-gassing neighborhoods, abducting people from their cars and homes with helicopters and bearcats, beating and arresting protesters.

so far, the state’s response has been to just let them do it—and to send in the police to help them.
ICE is doing a hell of a lot of harm in the Chicago area *right now.* I don’t mean to trivialize the national guard stuff, it absolutely is an irresponsible escalation, but the guard-centric convo around this really does understate what’s going on without any guardsmen.
