I had a mastectomy last year after a lobular diagnosis. Unusually, mine had formed a 3.5cm lump. I wish I’d been checking more regularly - I might have found it sooner - but I was lucky it hadn’t spread to my lymph nodes. So yes, mammograms are essential, but do keep checking your chest too 🙏

New study from Melbourne finds reducing residential speed limits from 50km/h to 30 km/h on local roads would protect cyclists from danger, make riding less stressful and get more people cycling while not causing traffic delays for cars.
Switching 50km/h speed limits to 30km/h would protect cyclists while barely affecting commutes, research finds
One expert says a cyclist hit by a car travelling 50km/h has about a one-in-ten chance of surviving, while at 30km/h it was a nine-in-ten chance

There’s not much to say about the solid wall insulation failures that hasn’t already been said. A diabolical policy failure that wasted money and harmed people.

But one thing I will add is: I think it highlights the need for more state delivery capacity on warm homes, not just regulation
🧵
Almost all external insulation fitted under Tory scheme needs repair or replacing, report finds
Homeowners who took advantage of government programmes left with cladding likely to cause damp

Making it easier for ppl to be active as part of everyday life should be a public health priority

“The best medicine isn’t found in a pill bottle or an operating theatre – it’s movement”

“Exercise is good medicine for the whole body: it has documented benefits across more than 26 chronic diseases”
Joint pain or osteoarthritis? Why exercise should be your first line of treatment
Globally, osteoarthritis affects nearly 600 million people. Yet fewer than 50% are offered the one proven treatment: exercise.

Little lungs are paying for #Dieselgate every day. This morning we gathered at the Royal Courts of Justice on day one of the biggest ever group claim trial in English legal history. It’s time the car manufacturers paid. #AirPollution #Health

About 5 years #carfree for us. Well north of £10k saved. I’m used to it now but ‘free’ is the right term. It honestly felt like having a weight lifted. No stressing about insurance, huge unexpected bills & money wasted at petrol pumps. Journeys are now fun. 🚆 🚊 🚃 🚌 🚲 🚶‍♀️
kirstendevos.bsky.social
3+ years #carfree for me too 🚶🏻‍♀️🚲🚌🚖

Walk, ride, public transport, and the occasional car share (Co-Wheels) or taxi when needed. Honestly? It’s nowhere near as hard as we thought it would be

Still saving money, still getting places, still feeling good.

In Wales, Cornwall, Edinburgh, London and so many places when most 30mph roads were changed to 20mph, people injured or killed by motor vehicles reduced by 20%+. With minimal change to journey times and £2bn saving in insurance costs it's a huge win. bit.ly/4gIBPlJ

It’s about a family ride to visit animal murals, that Haringey Cycling organised last month. So many children … 1/8

Still hoping for a world where children can move around safely & independently, where reliance on private automobiles isn't the price of participation in society. But for today I'm #thankful to have thrown off the shackles of #CarDependency & hopefully inspire others to break free too #ClimateAction
