Hey #portfolioday! My name's Kieran and I'm a senior artist making games at Polyarc. In my (very limited) spare time I also sculpt toys and collectibles, and I'm working on a solo tactics game project in #godot called Farmageddon. I love stylized aesthetics and learning new things.

For your base ship in Farmageddon I wanted to break from the grid-based locomotion you use in battle and instead allow you to freely walk around the environment to interact with things (channeling some Disgaea vibes).

Finally started chopping up the assets for this scene and bringing them into Godot. It'll be nice to have a real looking "home base" to come back to between battles instead of just the placeholder UI I've been using up to this point.

I was just mentioning this game the other day - more specifically how it's an artifact of a magical era in gaming when iPads were new and devs were exploring what games on that platform could look like. There were so many creative, unique games that came out of that time - this being one of them.

There are many things to love about Rami’s top 10 for 2025 but this is one of my favourites.
No market research would've approved a French j'RPG. No genre coverage graph would've led to PEAK. No player count prediction would've funded a decade-long development cycle for a game about blueprints. The games you love are built by people who got to dream, and had the resources to back it up.

I do understand: you want permission. There's a machine in the corner wrapped in human skin that makes things out of shit and blood to look like whatever you want (as long as you don't look too closely). You gave one to your teacher and they didn't notice. Your boss told you to use it after they laid off half the team and it was fine. You fed one to your kids and they liked it. You want to know you can use it sometimes without me thinking less of you. You don't need me to believe it's useful, you just want me to be polite about it. But I am a hater, and I will not be polite. The machine is disgusting and we should break it. The people who build it are vapid shit-eating cannibals glorifying ignorance. I strongly feel that this is an insult to life itself.

You are painting a vision of a future in which teachers create lessons with "A.i.," students complete them with "A.i.," and teachers grade them with "A.i."

No learning takes place under this system.

The only benefactors of this system are the corporations being paid for the "A.i." products.

something I'm surprised gen AI discourse didn't hit yet is the attitude "I asked for it to be done, so I made it" has always been how rich people view using workers who have trained skills and do the technical side. they see themselves as creators for having an idea, we were just a means to that end

Share your knowledge if/when you can. Teaching other people how to do what you do doesn’t lessen your art - it just means more and better art for everyone.

I appreciate when people are willing to tell me about their brushes, how they study, etc… I want to put that back out into the world.
