The Chancellor explicitly references the negative legacy of Brexit on the UK economy - so why is her govt so opposed to taking steps like joining the customs union or single market with all the economic benefits these would bring? #Budget2025

Gambling taxes are long overdue and an ethical way to raise revenue.

But while advertising and lobbying are so rampant, harms will continue until they are controlled. #Budget

Rachel Reeves earmarks £5m for secondary school libraries. Less than £1,200 per school.

You couldn’t even replace the carpet for that.

👀 So while all eyes were on the budget, Ministers just slipped out their North Sea Future Plan. While it’s good to see them stick to manifesto pledge not to grant new licenses, it’s a shame to see approval of “tiebacks” to existing fields - unnecessary concession that undermines climate messages

"Would avoid 800,000 cases of asthma symptoms, 2,000 hospital visits & 4,500 premature deaths... $46bn in health benefits in 2032"

Because of a "cost to industry of 'hundreds of millions, if not billions of dollars'"

Sounds good cost benefit to me.

"But the issue isn’t that we need more 'boy-friendly' reforms. It’s that boys are still socialized to compete only with boys and to read girls’ success as illegitimate or emasculating. The result is dissonance, resentment, and disengagement for boys—and hostile climates for girls."

Brexit is the reason today’s Budget squeezes families, yet the government is still shuffling towards solutions that demand real urgency. We need far bolder steps back towards the single market if we want future budgets that lift people up rather than drain them.
Baby steps won’t fix Brexit or the Budget
There is a way to get back a much bigger slice of the money Brexit has cost us. By getting the UK back into the EU single market.

Most people don’t realise how much air pollution harms our health. The RCP says many are unaware of links to heart disease, stroke & dementia. We need clear public info and stronger action to cut emissions. Clean air is basic public health.

What are they thinking? Oh, they aren’t!😞
It's real, and it's mind-blowing.

A complete lack of awareness and a national embarrassment.
Just some British patriots in Benidorm, taking over a street in Spain to shout in their own language about unwanted foreigners. It’s a blessing that they are too thick to understand irony.
