I’ve seen this too. Most likely students who haven’t actually attended the course, or used GenAI for previous written work and so didn’t learn anything, and are hoping to scrape a pass. Worrying.

Another UK case of someone misidentified by facial recognition. It's about time this gets regulated properly in the UK, best would be to ban it outright.

Genuinely, if you live in the UK you should so the consultation just to find out some of the unbelievable details of what's being proposed. Even with their spin and obfuscation it's shocking
the whole thing is of course completely revolting. 20 YEARS to settlement for refugees? no settlement if you’ve ever had a criminal conviction or a tax debt? 10 YEARS added if you’ve ever received benefits? partners and children on their own routes to settlement? What are you even TALKING about

It really is funny watching AI people talk about AI as intelligence. Like Jim Henson telling everyone on Sesame Street how scared he is of "the thing that lives in the can."

The tool isn’t anything without training, which depends on data. (Note that this is specifically about *generative* AI, not AI in general. The label ‘AI’ is in any case largely meaningless. It’s just a marketing slogan.)
February 11, 2026 at 7:31 AM
This is a straw man. Nobody is saying that AI is *evil*. It’s not capable of that. But LLMs and other models are trained on data published on the internet or elsewhere without the authors’ permission, and fine-tuned using exploitative labour from the global south. Those are just the facts.
February 11, 2026 at 7:29 AM
Particularly hard given that LLMs don’t understand anything. 🤪 #PhilAI #CognitiveScience #Anthropic

Johnson has had the benefit of the doubt for years (he arguably still does), including throughout the pandemic. Partygate was a scandal involving the PM, MPs and staff. What the cases have in common is the BBC’s preference to report on personalities and gossip rather than focusing on the substance.
