You keep saying that, but no matter how many times you mischaracterise my argument, it doesn’t make it the case. Honestly, I don’t think we’re getting anywhere with this and I’m sure we both have better things to do (I know I do). I wish you well with your AI models!

The tool is a product of the industry, which is what I’m blaming. Your criticisms seem idealistic and divorced from reality. You may not give AF about stolen content but that’s people’s creative output and livelihoods. Fine to train your own models, but that needs to be balanced with others’ rights.

It’s not a guy. It’s an ✨entirely new entity✨!

I’ve seen this too. Most likely students who haven’t actually attended the course, or used GenAI for previous written work and so didn’t learn anything, and are hoping to scrape a pass. Worrying.

‘Triples’ seems like an underestimate…

The tool isn’t anything without training, which depends on data. (Note that this is specifically about *generative* AI, not AI in general. The label ‘AI’ is in any case largely meaningless. It’s just a marketing slogan.)

This is a straw man. Nobody is saying that AI is *evil*. It’s not capable of that. But LLMs and other models are trained on data published on the internet or elsewhere without the authors’ permission, and fine-tuned using exploitative labour from the global south. Those are just the facts.

Over 1,800 people are reported to have died of #COVID-19 in the past 28 days, the overwhelming majority of those (1,573) in the US. The next biggest country was Sweden with 102 deaths. The cumulative number of deaths from #COVID that were reported to the WHO is now well over seven million.

Random Fact

In Toothed Whales, their right nasal passage evolved into the mechanism that produces the sonar click they use for echolocation.

I honestly have no idea how they made this, but I would guess that it has more to do with what other accounts you’re following, and which follow you, rather than content. (My own followers are from all over the place, but cluster around philosophy and cognitive neuroscience, so 🤷‍♂️.)
