Well imagine my delight when I realised the man beside me in the green room in RTÉ today is Niall Hatch of @birdwatchireland.bsky.social

"This public servant has pulled down a 50-year-old piece of legislation off a shelf and used it to warn the mum she is writing to."

Fergus Finlay: I read a letter from a public servant to a parent. I can't remember the last time I was so shocked
I’ve met many parents who struggled, for all sorts of reasons, to be the parent they wanted to be. But I've never met one who benefited from a lecture from a civil servant

More than 10,000 works were stolen by russia from the Kherson Regional Art Museum during the occupation.

Last week, I visited an exhibition featuring art prints of some of the stolen pieces.
You’ve already seen a few of them in my letter.

Here’s a short video.

I was really troubled by this Atlantic piece. It was presented as reporting, but it seems more accurate to describe it as speculative fiction based on reporting. It seems like a bizarre choice for a journalistic institution to make. www.niemanlab.org/2026/02/the-...
The Atlantic’s Elizabeth Bruenig on her “hypothetical,” heavily reported measles essay

Pádraic Fogarty: Ecosystem collapse is real and is happening here now
Ireland can breeze through the collapse of our own ecosystems because of the stabilising effect of much larger ecosystems elsewhere. Now those ecosystems too are at risk of collapse, due principally t...

There’s serious social, environmental and personal implications to family farms disappearing from the landscape. They haven’t been devised as policies, so much as commercially driven. “Go big or get out” is not an aspiration now so much as as explanation for departing.

It’s not a new principle that you don’t stay friends with someone you know is a pedophile. I wouldn’t stop being friends with them because I feared guilt by association. I’d stop being friends either them because they are a pedophile.

I wonder why the right needs to do these mental gymnastics… 🤔
