No longer a grad student, but the rest remains true.

Hi. I'm a disabled educator, grad student, & organizer. I do work around supporting & celebrating disabled people & communities in schools. Connecting with disabled folks on social media brought me into community 10 years ago. With the downfall of the bird app, I'm hoping to find that again here. ❤️

the US profoundly needs a children's rights movement. children are not property... they deserve opportunity and learning and autonomy and security.... and our country just does not acknowledge this

A judge in Vermont has ordered Tufts University student Rümeysa Öztürk immediately released from ICE detention. Öztürk has been held in a notorious prison in Louisiana. She still faces the threat of deportation, apparently in retaliation for co-authoring a piece for her student newspaper about Gaza.

Dictators, fascists, and oligarchs want us to believe that they are all-powerful and that we’d be nothing without them. The reality is, they don’t create anything. WE the people create EVERYTHING!

This poster was inspired by this passage from Daniel Hunter’s article “10 ways to be prepared and grounded now that Trump has won”:

“It will be helpful to have a power analysis in our minds, specifically that’s known as the upside-down triangle. This tool was built to explain how power moves even under dictatorships.

The central tenet is that like an upside-down triangle, power can be unstable. It naturally topples over without anything supporting it. To prevent that, power relies on pillars of support to keep it upright. … Describing the pillars of support, Gene Sharp wrote:

‘By themselves, rulers cannot collect taxes, enforce repressive laws and regulations, keep trains running on time, prepare national budgets, direct traffic, manage ports, print money, repair roads, keep markets supplied with food, make steel, build rockets, train the police and army, issue postage stamps or even milk a cow. People provide these services to the ruler though a variety of organizations and institutions. If people would stop providing these skills, the ruler could not rule.’

Removing one pillar of support can often gain major, life-saving concessions. In response to Trump’s 2019 government shutdown, flight attendants prepared a national strike. Such a strike would ground planes across the country and a key transportation network. Within hours of announcing they were ‘mobilizing immediately’ for a strike, Trump capitulated.”

@npr.org for every minute spent talking to a non-autistic person about autistic people's needs, you should be giving at least 2x that amount to actually autistic people— & not just in written stories, but on-air.

Apply said rubric to any other group under attack right now for their lived realities.

2-Year-Old U.S. Citizen Was Deported With No Meaningful Process, Judge Suspects
Asserting that "it is illegal and unconstitutional to deport" a U.S. citizen, Judge Doughty set a hearing for May 16 to explore his "strong suspicion that the government just deported a U.S. citizen with no meaningful process."

When people break the law, and their actions are righteous and appropriate, we should applaud them. When people abide by or enforce the law, and their actions are repugnant, we should condemn them. We should never pretend the law is a moral dividing line.

An autism "registry" culled from private medical records could potentially violate federal privacy laws and runs the risk of abuse.

It also harkens back to a time when disabled people were labeled, segregated, and excluded. We won't go back.
RFK Jr’s autism study collecting Americans’ private medical records
The National Institutes of Health claims it is fulfilling RFK’s promise to find cause of autism by September

In my grad union, we organized an access needs article. It included eliminating required medical documentation.

The admin rejected our proposals at every turn.

Now, RFK, Jr. wants to create a registry of Autistic people.

That required documentation makes people less safe.

Hi friends! A good friend asked me to share this awesome new project— a literary magazine by trans kids, for trans kids, with a little help from trans adults. If you have a trans kid in your life, definitely check out Chrysalis Magazine! www.chrysalismagazine.org
ANNOUNCING THE LAUNCH OF

Chrysalis

a new literary magazine by trans youth, for trans youth (created with a little help from trans adults)
These days, it feels like we are always hearing about trans kids and teens: Chrysalis was created so that trans, non-binary, intersex, gender-
queer, agender, two-spirit, and gender expansive youth can speak for themselves - and most impor-
tantly, speak to one another.

At Chrysalis, we believe that art, literature, and culture are a key part of trans resistance and resilience for people of all ages. And we know that the creativity, talent, and imagination of trans youth is unparalleled!

Chrysalis exists to give that radiance a platform, and to mentor the next generation of trans writers.

Submit!
We are currently seeking submissions of visual art, poetry, non-fiction and fiction related to our first issue's theme: Strength. You can also submit reporting on local events related to trans youth, and questions for Danny Lavery, our advice columnist! Visit the submissions page of our website for more information: chrysalismagazine.org/submissions
Submissions deadline: June 15, 2025.

Support our Work

Chrysalis is a grassroots initiative: we do not yet have grant funding and or other resources. Your donations help us print the magazine, pay for our website and other subscriptions, and grow our efforts for the future. To support our work, visit chrysalismagazine.org/support-our-work

Educators, as we consider our work and commitments to our students and their futures, how are we teaching about AI's climate impacts? How are we resisting AI hype? #EduSky

Poor reporter interviewing me about financial aid next year got an earful when they asked if I think anything can be done to stop a disaster from happening. Just me ranting "this isn't the asteroid from Armageddon, this is a self-inflicted wound and we could reverse these illegal firings any day."

It's been three months + 1 day since Elon Musk did a Nazi salute, twice, at the inauguration.

If you're still focused on pro-Palestine protestors as a threat to American Jews, then you don't really care about us.

If you're still saying that cancel culture by the left is a thing, you're full of it.

I'm quite comfortable with abolishing deportations and giving every immigrant and refugee a home and food and education and a job and safety, and if you object on the basis that we don't give citizens those things, my answer is simply that we should be giving those things already.
