Author of dual timeline novels, published by HQ HarperCollins.
Lover of mountains - they soothe my soul.
Often travelling in a motorhome in Spain.
I have been neglecting this platform. Sorry, Blueskyers! One reason is because I've started a Substack account, writing longer pieces about my books and the inspiration behind them. If you'd like to take a look, here's the link! substack.com/@kathmcgurl

The Unbound scandal keeps getting worse…
They owe me about £75,000 and never made a single one of their scheduled repayments.

My US books are all a sublicense of my Unbound deal, so all US royalties went to them, for them to take a cut and then deliver the rest to me. They collected 18 months from Penguin Random House and gave me $0.

Unsolicited writing advice, no. 1837:
Starting to write is like starting to run. It helps to get into a routine. Little and often is easier than trying to do hours at once, and small, manageable goals are easier to achieve - and therefore more motivating - than trying to imagine the finished work.

Today I made significant progress on a tricky set of edits, AND I went for a run.
Today has been a good day.

This morning I'm watching my UK pension fund wither and wondering when America is going to wake up, smell the coffee, and stop Trump. He's making us all poorer.

Slept in a Marc Bolan t-shirt and woke up riding a white swan.

It's publication day for me today! The Lost Diamond is now out in the world. Set in India 1947, and present day. I LOVED researching and writing this one!

Delightfully mad bit of history!
Righto, gonna recreate some of my most viral twitter threads here for posterity. First up:

For a few decades in the first century CE, the Roman Empire was absolutely flooded with weird sex-coins and we're still not 100% why.

Excellent tips on writing description here
#booksky
Thought I'd do a thread on writing tips that I might add to from time to time...
1) I've cited this one before on the other place... A description of a person or a place should tell you as much about the person doing the describing as the person or place being described. Examples below.

Dear "women of a certain age"
I'm having SO MANY hot flushes every day and even more at night, disturbing my sleep. Will HRT fix this, do you think? If so I'll ask my doctor when I'm back from Spain.

I have put together a starter pack for an author group I'm in. Lovely authors of all flavours and varieties. Like an author multipack. But without the weird chickeny ones that no one ever eats. #booksky #books

Can’t believe this needs to be said but… downloading ebooks illegally is theft. It’s an author’s livelihood & a lot of authors don’t make much to begin with. There are libraries & authors willing to give free copies if you really can’t afford it. Don’t steal from artists😫.

I usually have two books on the go at any one time. An "upstairs book" on my kindle, that I read at bedtime. Currently Rowan Coleman's A Home for Broken Hearts.
And a "downstairs book" - often non-fiction. Currently Olaudah Equiano's memoir, as research for a half-written novel.
