UNTIL IT’S DONE, Ep. 4: Sylvia Rivera

In the 1970s, queer New Yorkers had been pushed to the margins of NYC. Our trans neighbors faced immense cruelty. But in Sylvia Rivera, they found a champion.

As we combat Trump’s politics of darkness, her legacy can light the path forward.

But I bought it with literally 12 miles on it so I've gotten my money's worth.

Ooof. I wish that was the case. Full time all wheel drive means tires get $$$ cause all four have to match or it borks the transmission.

The nastiest one that's got me was replacing the axel. Twice. 3k cause I was getting out of the way of a firetruck and a curb fucked it.

Every time I've gotten a new car it was due to catastrophic failure. I swear I'd still be driving my 87 Civic as a commuter car if it hadn't been totaled by a lifted F250.

Current Subie is at 140k and 10 years old. Only drive it to work now so fully expect my kids to drive it.

I was known for playing the weirdest stuff on air..... and on a college radio station that could be *very* weird.

Welch reggae metal certainly qualified.

Here's a blast from the past...

I used to spin this song by Skindred on the radio when I was a DJ.

My pay is roughly 25k/yr behind where inflation says it should be compared to 2010.

If you factor in that I've had multiple promotions since then, it's more like 40k.

The problem is less that Americans "want" to buy cheap things than that wages have not kept up with inflation. Sure, buy a couple of "timeless pieces," but if you need a full work wardrobe and it costs 8-10% of your gross income... 🤷🏻‍♀️ Vintage doesn't address the issue of availability of larger sizes

In 2004, Parisian police were conducting a training exercise in the french catacombs and found, after moving past a desk and a tape playing audio of snarling dogs, a fully functional movie theater and bar. When they returned 3 days later, the equipment was gone, with a note: “Do not try to find us.”
Members of the force's sports squad, responsible
- among other tasks - for policing the 170 miles of tunnels, caves, galleries and catacombs that underlie large parts of Paris, stumbled on the complex while on a training exercise beneath the Palais de Chaillot, across the Seine from the Eiffel Tower.
After entering the network through a drain next to the Trocadero, the officers came across a tarpaulin marked: Building site, No access.
Behind that, a tunnel held a desk and a closed-circuit TV camera set to automatically record images of anyone passing. The mechanism also triggered a tape of dogs barking, "clearly designed to frighten people off," the spokesman said.
Further along, the tunnel opened into a vast 400 sq metre cave some 18m underground, "like an underground amphitheatre, with terraces cut into the rock and chairs". There the police found a full-sized cinema screen, projection equipment, and tapes of a wide variety of films, including 1950s film noir classics and more recent thrillers. None of the films were banned or even offensive, the spokesman said.
A smaller cave next door had been turned into an informal restaurant and bar. "There were bottles of whisky and other spirits behind a bar, tables and chairs, a pressure-cooker for making couscous," the spokesman said.
"The whole thing ran off a professionally installed electricity system and there were at least three phone lines down there."
Three days later, when the police returned accompanied by experts from the French electricity board to see where the power was coming from, the phone and electricity lines had been cut and a note was lying in the middle of the floor: "Do not," it said, "try to find us."

The crash is going to be brutal when it comes.

Robinhood says "it might offer "tokenized" equity in OpenAI. By "tokenized," Business Insider reports, Robinhood means "blockchain-enabled representations of securities like stocks." In reality, they have no connection to OpenAI equity whatsoever."

Related... for many years, companies exploited the eff out of the Northern Mariana Islands... a US territory most people don't know exist... to exploit workers under sketchy "immigration" schemes in sweatshop conditions in order to slap "Made in USA" tags on things.

This two-parter below is exactly why it's hard to make clothes in the United States.

Let's look at how much it costs to produce a button-up shirt in the US. 🧵
Someone on Twitter replies to me: "meh. buy american or stfu."

Two hours later, in a separate thread, the write: "$30 for a single button-up is ridiculous unless it is decent quality silk."

political parties have a vested interest in wanting to convince you they are your friend and the responsibility of the citizen is to understand the difference between a coalition and a political alliance and not get sucked into to cults of personality

people like Gavin Newsom because they think the phrase "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" is a universal truth. they cannot comprehend two separate groups hating you.

if racists and misogynists were in a fight, black women don't see one side as the enemy of their enemy, therefore a friend.
