Barbarism is the natural state of mankind. Civilization is unnatural. It is a whim of circumstance. And barbarism must always ultimately triumph.

The EA addresses trans rights in detail, and expressly protects them. How could its intention have been to undermine the main purpose of the GRA (that a person with a GRC is to be legally recognised as their acquired sex)? And without saying so?

So much of the commentary on the FWS judgment has been driven by reflexive responses to the outcome, but there are so many gaps and leaps in its reasoning that it will spawn litigation for years to come - @aoifemod.bsky.social and I flag some failings in judge craft:

If any stereotypes at all are going to spread, they should at least include how often Muslims are responsible for selfless and inspiring acts of bravery.

Just last year, another Pakistani Muslim sacrificed his life to intervene on a mass stabbing in Bondi.

Shorter thread: Laura Kuenssberg is spreading misinformation and Mary-Ann Stephenson understands neither the law nor her role and can't bring herself to say trans people exist.
So, Laura Kuenssberg's introduction to her interview with Mary-Ann Stephenson is just hideous.

Let me count the ways. 🧵

This week, the British state tried to say it was all over

It’s not. Justice will remain denied until the army is forced to reveal exactly what it did

Very sad that I felt I had no choice but to resign from The Infinite Monkey Cage - a victory for the transphobes and other bigots - I did it because so much of the media has chosen to believe the kind and empathetic people are a fiction - they are real and so often unrepresented.

Critics argue that the ECHR stops us from being able to deport illegal migrants. In reality, in 75 years the ECHR has only ruled against the UK in 13 cases out of 500k: 0.000026%. The ECHR is being used a scapegoat for domestic challenges, and we must defend it.

1 The lawsuits are financially “backed” by an influential anti-trans group now known as the Independent Council on Women’s Sports, or ICONS, a nonprofit that has lobbied the NCAA for sports bans since 2022.
A lawyer who helped lead Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election was also heavily involved in lawsuits seeking to ban trans women from sports.
