Line art if the Pale Stag from Hollow Knight Silksong, a quadrupedal bushel of leaves shaped vaguely like a stag. Lost Verdania was such a highlight of the game for me, the tonal whiplash of going from Greymoor (which i imagine feels basically like an average day in london) to the most lively, beautiful flora in the whole of Pharloom was astounding. And it was a much needed payoff for the Green Prince’s story, cause up until Act 3 i was so sure i messed up his side quest just cause there was so little of him. The Pale Stag as a boss fight really had such a wonderful build up. Delving into the forgotten shrines of Verdania, stitching the Prince’s repressed memories back into the landscape, and hearing about his legendary hunt while chasing the Stag through the clovers was just perfect. And then the fight itself undercut all of that. The Stag just, stands there? Shoots some magic and teleports every hit. It just felt wrong fighting this thing. Which looking back might have been the intent, to reinforce that Hornet is intruding here, and her presence is ruining the memory. I can appreciate that now, but at the time i really felt let down by the fight, just because everything leading up to it was so engrossing.
