#weeknightwriters #firstdraftfall Okay, I'm feeling a little bit called out now. "What aspect are you working on tonight? You ARE working on an aspect aren't you? AREN'T YOU?"

Okay, okay! Fine. I'll work on an aspect of story planning, Story Mom (complimentary)

*shuffles off, teenager style*

The theories of relativity indicate a deep connection between time and space. Similarly, TIME is running out to submit to Translunar Traveler's Lounge; we still have SPACE for more stories!
translunartl.bsky.social
Translunar Travelers Lounge closes to submissions end of day tomorrow, 15th October at midnight Eastern Time (US) (UTC-4:00). If you want to submit speculative fiction to us, make sure it's before then! Please read the guidelines. translunartravelerslounge.com/submissions/
Submissions
Broadly defined, the type of fiction we are looking for is “fun”. [Go to Submissions]

I would have gone running to pick this up anyway, but a sinister whiteboard?! I don't want to say "inject it into my veins", because, well... look at the picture and read the description, I'm sure that'd come with all sorts of complications, but... yeah. Sentiment's definitely there.

book’s out! hospital gothic, more claustrophobia and slippage of reality, more medical minutiae than most people need, a sinister whiteboard. get it where you get your books but here’s an option:

A promo photo of The Graceview Patient. The hardcover is stacked on the left, and also face out in the center. There’s a sharps container to the right, two decorative medicine vials, a craft syringe filled with food coloring, some alcohol prep swabs, and a package of cotton gauze.

I had the pleasure of reading No Shelter But The Stars by @virginiablack.bsky.social recently. Sapphic sci-fi enemies-to-lovers against a backdrop of galactic colonialism that skillfully skirts all the cliches that come to mind when you read those words. Highly recommended.

This is a brilliant way to describe this book!

After 2020, I told my wife I was going to calm down about the Dodgers in the playoffs.

In 2024, as soon as they won, I swore I was going to calm down. Again.

Have I calmed down? All signs point to no.

I can talk all I want about how it's okay if the Dodgers don't win, but it's all just talk.
julesanew.bsky.social
Exactly.

I still have this nagging curiosity about my parallel plotline/POV idea and I feel like it could be really exciting if I could pull the craft off, but I'm not sure just how important it is.

I should chat about it on the Discord or something one of these times, I guess.

#weeknightwriters #firstdraftfall Not in this draft as outlined, but I’ve toyed with a couple of other POV characters and one major potential change to the draft to add a parallel plot line/POV for series potential. It’s a loaded question!

#WeeknightWriters #FirstDraftFall Will your story include any POV characters other than your main character?

In honor of spooky month, share a 4 word horror story that only someone in your profession would understand.

"Grades due, one hour."

or

"The minus-80 freezer died."

I'll go first: Six page commercial lease.

Finally finished some reading for a book award judging gig and now I'm back to reading Kerstin Hall's Asunder. It's an atmospheric wonder so far and I'm very intrigued by the characters.

Can’t decide what to buy on Prime Day?

Try: absolutely nothing, and then go support indie bookstores instead 📚
julesanew.bsky.social
That was the second thing I thought after YAY DODGERS.

Sacrifices must indeed be made!

That's a great read. Thanks for passing it along.

I'm one of a chorus of people raving about @caitlinstarling.com's The Starving Saints but what a knockout book. It's a fever dream of a love story, a cautionary tale, the best book involving cannibalism I've ever read, gorgeously written and paced, with three deeply flawed kickass POV characters.
julesanew.bsky.social
I stopped buying coffee at shops a few months ago so I could buy more books. I totally see what you mean.

This is what sucks about watching Gen X go full MAGA. I grew up on this. My friends grew up on this. And now they’re all fascist-lite or worse. Did they learn nothing?
julesanew.bsky.social
I had this from the library but didn’t have time to finish it. $2.99 is indeed a steal!
julesanew.bsky.social
Okay, so. I finished The Starving Saints and OMFG you did not set my expectations high enough. I don't even know where to start talking about all the things that blew me away (*flaps hands incoherently*).

The writing. The creeping (and creepy) doom. The pacing. The inventiveness. All of it.
julesanew.bsky.social
Oh my goodness are you in for a treat! Both are AMAZING.

Read this. Then read the rest of the series. Then read the Starmetal Symphony books. Make Alex’s books a part of your life. You will thank me, I promise.
julesanew.bsky.social
Love this whole series. Alex White never disappoints.

Listen, Mariners. The only safe relievers right now are the ones who haven’t pitched for the Dodgers.
